+1 STREAK.  (Put Boxhead down as a possible also.)

OK people get on board and organise yourselves to get here.  There are multiple routes you can take, plenty of opportunities for sight seeing along some wonderful country roads, country hospitality on display and good company to enjoy.

After all this is what this riding thing is all about isn't it - and getting there is a lot of the fun.

Good to see you thinking about it Alan.  Where are the reps from the other states now?

Streak, a couple of points to consider, Biloela is just under a 900 km ride from Townsville and around 500km from Brisbane. That time of year Bilo is freezing, temps drop below zero as Biloela sit on the western plains at 200 mts above sea level, more of in a bowl.

I spent 25 years in the area and worked many trains into Bilo when I was a driver.

Just some things to consider. perhaps Emu Park, Yeppoon or even Rockhampton would be a better choice.

Hi sab, we tried our best to get accomodation right through all those areas, I spent the afternoon of the phone, I rang accomodation places in emu park, yeppoon, rockhampton, grace mere, kinka beach, all of which told me either booked out or not interested in having a small group booking at that time of year

end result no one had spare accomodation for us, hence why Tackleberry, Diesel and I decided on Bilo, the days are nice, but the nights are a touch cold, but we considered that well we would be in bed by then.

Thank you for the heads up and advice though  :thumb

Had thought about the distance issue for some people may be a struggle, because we all ride for our own reasons as we all know, but one of the reasons for locking the date and location so far out, as FarRiders would also understand, is to plan your ride, and possibly turn it into a long weekend with four days instead of two.

So those thinking about the distance may be able to work on four days instead of two.  More time on the bike riding for fun is always a good thing. :hatwave

We won't confirm our attendence yet, but I have contacted the park about rates and I've estimated fuel usage for the return trip. Checked for fuel locations along the route and that's no problem. Estimated trip return cost inc accommodation $600 plus food.

We'd be looking at two 700km riding days (two nights free bush camping) and 600km on day of arrival (friday) two nights in the park leaving sunday and two more nights on the road to get back home.  It's not set in stone yet but that's how we'd do it.

Sounds like a good solid plan Alan.  The good thing about having a plan to start with is that it can be modified if you want/need to. :thumbs  Without one you got nothing to start with.

The essence of good planning, is not to set the plan in concrete as thats when things will go wrong. A good planner is always able to adjust the plan on the run.

The distance isn't an issue with us as we had a few 1600km overnighters to Perth from Karratha just to go down an visit my sis. Most people flew, we rode. This only an extra 400kms.

Done that quite a few times.......planning isn't just about fuel stops or where you're gonna spend the night it's also about managing fatigue: not just for the trip there but the return trip as well.

It is after all a Qld event so you can't really cater for any interstate interlopers.  It is July down south, enough of a reason to go North  :wht11  I just rode 800kms for a pie today, so have to get something better in Biloela  :think1

I'm a possible at this stage.  By that time of year I could probably do with a break.  Have a brother and neices and nephews in Rocky, so a detour might be in order.  :)

Looked at the maps and  :think1 I might drop in an have a gander at Cania Gorge while I'm up that way.  Driven past it a few times while I was driving company cars and always wondered what it would be like.

Time will tell.

As some of you are aware I have spent the last 6 months or so negotiating with the Chinese government for me and my two colleagues to go to Shanghai to carry out a design task for their budding aircraft design industry, however the Chinese seem to be completely incapable of making a decision. Well in the meantime I have now been offered a contract here in Australia, at RAAF Amberley, where I have spent the last 12 years working, at an hourly rate that is just under $10 per hour less than I would be paid in China. Having done the sums it really isn't worth it for me and my two colleagues to go over to Shanghai to work; whilst we might be a slightly better off financially, psychologically we'd be far worse off in all respects.

So China is all but dead in the water, I haven't told them yet, but I will in the next few days.

Anyway I start my new job on Feb 1st which is a Friday so I can get all the bulls**t out the way in one go and hit the ground running on Monday February the 4th.

Now whilst this means that I will now be in Australia for the Middleton trip, I cannot see any way on earth that I can take 2 weeks off to ride down to SA and back...more's the pity. So I'm going to have to stay withdrawn from the trip. But I certainly now have this trip to Biloela firmly on my radar, so please put me on the list of intended attendees for this overnight shindig.

One last thought is that if I'm not going to China for the next two or three years I won't have to lay the monSTer up for that period, which makes me very happy!

Sounds tempting.. I'm already booked for the UC AGM in April and the Southern Cross run in September so I'll need to see if I can get permission from both bosses (domestic and employment) to have a week or so off in July. If I can I'll make the effort to get there.

I hope it was in that order.....
Don't remember much after staggering back to the motel in Rocky @ 5:30 am, having 3 hours sleep & then doing a fine impression of
a drunken thunderbird puppet in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by a co-worker.
I can say that the dawson hwy is in my mind without doubt the most evil bit of "road" i have ever bumped & nearly barfed over.
Although the previous night it was police station , motel , pub, another pub , a dodgy joint ( more booze ) then motel.....
So whizz, technically correct  :beer

Hey Sabie, if all else fail and we don't have jobs, we could ride up the Big Dad's pies at Deception Bay, or the BP Northbound, have a decent pie and coffee, and fake the trip from there.  :grin
At least we'd be out and about on the machines for a couple of hours. :think1

If nobody has anything available I will be looking at booking for Boxhead and I in the next two weeks, and will let everybody know if I have spare room.

Sabie it's good to see you riding buddy.

OK everybody just spoke with the the helpful Lisa and booked it in Eddie for myself and boxhead, sorry Sabie & Rex but I am not sharing a Queen size bed with you.

OK Just for information people the following is still available at this time:

Superior Cabin - x1 Queen & Sofa Bed & internal ensuite $130 - 3 left

Deluxe Cabin - x1 Queen & internal ensuite $80 - 2 left

Standard Cabin - x1 Queen & external ensuite $50 - 16 left

Powered site for any Campers @ $30 - 14 left.

Time to get yourself motivated.  Don't have to pay the full amount on your card they will take a deposit and give you time to save up the huge expenditure in the mean time.

All you have to do is mention OZSTOC and they know exactly what & when to book you in for.

Can you tell me what the OzSTOC prices should be, please?

I just got quoted $80 for a Standard Cabin, so am not sure if I am getting ripped off, or not.

Hello John,
Tackleberry's pricing is correct, i think the confusion is in the wording of the rooms  :thumb, i have put it below:

Standard Cabin with Ensuite is $80

Standard Cabin without Ensuite (External Bathroom) $50 (they call this one the budget cabin)

Just head north Saaz.....   :thumb

Thanks Saaz, that's sound advice.... As for a route, have you been up through Moree, Goondiwindi, Wondoan,Taroom and Banana and across to Biloela? If you haven't, its a nice run and would be lovely this time of year.

Just an option for you Saaz if you haven't been that way. Roads are sealed all the way and not to bad as you would expect rural roads to be.

Cheers

Sabie

Sabie, I was looking for something a bit different and Goondiwindi, Wondoan,Taroom and Banana and across to Biloela sounds as close as it gets.  I went up to Eungella last year, and just came back from Maryborough, so anything with some variation would be great!  I went to uni with someone from Monto so deliberately went through there to Rockhampton last time.  I hope to have a few extra days around the event so may go north with some locals for a bit then head back down south.

No problem Saaz, its a good run up that way, plenty of fuel stops, just keep a eye out for the road trains and let them have the road.

From memory there's no single lane bitchumen. Banana to Biloela is only 45k's and its a reasonable road. Travelled that road thousands of time with my old railway job over the 25 years in Gladstone. We used to either take the train out to Moura and car home or car out and train home as one crew couldn't get from Gladstone to Moura load the coal train and get back to Gladstone in your allotted 11 hours.

I'm sure Tackleberry and John won't mind some company back to Townsville ... Prime riding weather at the moment.

I'm going to head over to Gladstone and have a week with my Son and his Fiancé and then head back to Townsville at the end of that week.

But nice country up through that way, the road will undulate a bit and there's a bit of subsidence due to the Black Soil, just watch it dosen't rock you to sleep.... LOL

See ya at Bilo....

Cheers

I'm not going to be able to make this one I'm afraid. Marissa and I passed through Biloela last weekend on the way home from Mackay. Looks like a great place and there is a fantastic pie shop at the Fruit Market right in the centre of town opposite the Honda dealer. Pretty good roads leading into and out of town too. Hope everyone has a great weekend and travels safely.

As Google maps mentions a 7hr + ride from my place I would be in no condition to enjoy the evening.
So I will leaving the day before and staying in a motel some where plus it allows me to take a more indirect and leisurely route.  :grin
Have not yet worked on which route

I've just spoken to the place in Biloela to confirm and pay the balance on my cabin. They have confirmed that the cabin I have has only a double bed in it - no bunks - so if anyone else is expecting there to be spare beds in their cabin, it would be worth checking that there are the bunks/beds you were expecting (soon - so alternative arrangements can be made if needed).

Just a thought.

Both seem ok by me
I like about a 2 hour ride, and of couse, with my age health problem, a small hiss, stop for fuel, a break, water, coffeee and a bit of a walk around
so for me, a start at Caseldine Caltex on Sat. 20th say 7:30 to 7:45 for an 8:00 am SHARP start off

I may well be leaving from Brisbane on the Queensland to Biloela  leg so will keep the plan in mind.  On the way back I plan to have one stopover to Canberra, as I am in no real rush.  I think I will be sick of some of those roads soon as have been on them quite a few times lately, so any new route is good.

this is a bit off of course.   Runcorn is only a 30 minute ride away,
so my revised idea is to be at the Carseldine Caltex by 6:50am
and to leave NO LATER  than 7:15am, for a meetup with youngSTer at the intersection of D'Aduilar Hway, King and Williams street at Moodlu about a 30 minute run i think, WHO is going to be in this group ???

by my guess, it is about 50 minutes from Runcorn to the corner of D'Aguilar highway / king street and williams street, coming over the Gateway, so I plan to be there waiting from about 7:45am,
does this mesh in with you other riders ideas.  Probably there will be others in the group, coming from the North side of BRS. I WILL need to have a WEE stop etc. at Nanango or Goomeri,

Overnight Accommodation - Bargara Shoreline Serviced Apartment after Biloela

Rob and I are going to break up our trip coming back from Biloela and stop off at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, then head to Bargara Shoreline Apartments for the night.

If anyone in interested in joining us for the ride or just a visit to The Distillery you are more then welcome.  If you would like to stay overnight at Bargara please give my Uncle Vince and Aunty Louise a call on (07) 4159 1180 and let them know that you are from Ozstoc and that you are travelling with us.

We will be having dinner on Sunday night at the Gold Club which is right next door and the food is great and the drinks cheap.

If anyone has any question please send either Robjob or myself a message and we will get back to you.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Bilo and having a good time.

That sounds like a great plan.  I have just been to Bargara for a FarRide, and would not mind spending a bit more time around the area.  Once I get back from Ebor I will try and finalise my planning for Biloela.  A short day on the Sunday would be good given my current plans.

Guy's i usually go to Brisbane that weekend to the bay bike show, and travel through Biloela on the way ,i have not had the time to look before but the machinery show is a big deal ,i think i will leave Emerald about 630/700am so as to have a good look at the show as it's only about 5 hours from here.Any north Queensland members coming though this way ,sing out if you need some place to stay on the Friday night. morning travellers
I chose Moodlu as a stop meet point, because the south side riders dont need to detour at Boondal to get to Carseldine.
also the Caltex Servo at Carseldine is a convienient stop for north siders.

6:00am at Carseldine, gives us an easy half hour to get us to Moodlu

here is simplistic info on the Mach. show

My proposed Route to Biloela. Thought I'd head inland for a look see.... I've been on these roads before except for the Collinsville to Nebo road the rest I've been over.

Just Thought it would be something different as I'm heading down Friday thought I'd explore and revisit some old memories.

If you get stuck, I have a queen bed (me) with sofa (Harieg) so there would be floor space or something might be organised.

Has anyone got a spare bed or sofa or floor for another traveller?

Hi IanB I would have some floor space in my cabin although there is only a double bed.
But most likely there would be a sofa or something if you get stuck, you are most welcome.

Imagine the headline: "Biker's Moll scams Workcover delivering drugs to country towns".

HEY GENTS...
I am in Caloundra what way are you all travelling. Rather not go doen to Carseldine just to head back up this way..
Map tells me Bruce Highway but though you may be wanting something a bit more scenic.
My number is 0406115437. Please give me a ring or drop me a text with a meet up locale along the way.

Cheers

My rough plan at the moment, mainly to avoid the chance of heavier rain in places (been there, done that!) is Thursday Canberra -Goondawindi (overnight), then to Biloela for Friday overnight, sightseeing/riding etc until others arrive (may be cold beer in the fridge!), then back home Sunday somehow (may be through Brisbane to stay overnight there, but general plan is head south)

Biloela has 3 power Stations Callide A, B and C. The area around Biloela is predominantly Cotton.

I still find cotton quite amazing, all that white fluffy stuff everywhere and all the machinery and big bales.  Gets more boring after a few 100kms of it!

Hey Harie, If I do decide to tag on I'll meet Tipsy at Goomeri. Not much point in tracking south to go North.
anyone else who is taking a more coastal approach I'll be in Nambour abt 7.15 Sat and then easy stroll on the

If the pillion decides to come I'll have to start making quick accom calls to get a pub or motel room somewhere.
anyone needs a bed Fri as they mosey north then give me bell on 0407159860.

Forecast indicates it should fine up for the ride home Sunday.  Brisbane is forecast to be windy Sunday which generally means dry and cold.  Getting ready for the Ekka.  (If you are a Mexican the Ekka might not mean a lot, but it's important in Brissie).

Hi all, well because some members had major problems on their bikes, some turned up and some didn't. Others had no dramas at all and simply came out for the ride...both long or short. Bits of rain and some strange outcomes with meals etc. not withstanding, the overnight was a raging success!!  My wife drove me the 600 odd K's up to Biloela 'cause I'm not allowed to drive or ride for the next few months and whilst she carried on working, I had a wonderful evening get-together with the guys (and their ladies!) Pics to follow...not the official ones, they are still on the road home I think!!!

The "incidents" aside, it was a great weekend. Lots of new faces, and just as important (to me, anyway), lots of new roads. (if a "twitcher" is somebody who collects bird sightings, what do you call somebody who collects roads? I think I may be one of those. Sad, I know...).

And remember to take lots of photos and have fun :runyay :runyay :runyay :hatwave

We'll miss you Shiney.... In fact, we already are.... :'(

I wish I was there with you Sabie but alas I'm at work :'( (Damn bills always wanting to be paid)
You'll just have to have extra fun for me :thumb :runyay

left Caboolture at about 0930 to Nanango where at the BP a little kids checks the total price (not linked to Shop) had drink :crazy.
then to Ban Ban Springs for fuel and lunch (works burger and two PowerAde's (sorry :|||| no photos) bought some earplugs :clap (OMG the quietness).
then on to Monto but had to stop at Eidsvold for a little can of Mother :'( (was sleepy) and waved at some crazy nuts  in a truck with a bike on the back (oh that could a be ST spotted). :think1
On the way to Monto, Streak and Teela caught up and said hello :runyay at the petrol station (liberty) Duh signed everywhere no ETPOS or ATM, me have no cash :-((( (mush reread Tips for Long Riding) but they tricked us, the ATM was working. Fueled up and a quick get away. So quick I forgot to clean visor and glasses. :crazy The roadwork's were fun. dirty visor, dirty glasses (sunglasses) cloudy near dark Plus playing catch up with Streak. (funny watching streak point at things and say "see that, I made that" well in mind he did) :fp
We arrived, Streak checked his brakes :eek, checked in, found the cabin, found the pool, found a place to sit. then everybody started to ask "is this where we are sitting? No this where I'm sitting" (confused look). :o :rofl
Dinner eated three plates plus sweets :clap. Joined the unwashed masses for talking and stuff. :popcorn :beer :crackup
Sneaked off to cabin and watched a bit of the bible (spoiler alert - he comes back in the end) Bed.
A quick Breakfast with Streak and Teela. checked out and joined the STs for Photo (not). the left for home. Same way home but.....
Had cash ready a Monto, then on Gayndah, fuel, pie for lunch and picture of Big orange, saw a guy riding a pushbike with no helmet get a ticket.
No or little traffic till Blackbutt but i had got a strain in my left thigh so changing gears was not a happy time.
Stopped at Goomeri for arrest and had a nap for 45 minutes. :eek
it was fun passing and being passed by STs. Refuel and toilet at Nanango Shell.
Then straight home with traffic.
thanks for making go for a big ride.  :thumbsup :thumbs :clap :hatwave :Whipped

Some happy snap's of the trip

Well we had a wet trip down ,still fairly pleasant ride, arrived around 1.00pm after sorting out the room meeting a few of the guys ,we rode to the vintage machinery expo ,we really enjoyed seeing all the gear running.night time came quickly and soon we were in conversation with all the attending members. The dinner was a source of some trouble ,soon sorted by Wizz ,all and all quite a nice meal.Drinks afterwards ,much hilarity and piss taking,a great time had.Sunday dawned and  to a better looking day that got better as we traveled west,Dave, and Steve were great traveling companions ,as a treat they let me ride each of their St's both the 1100 and the 1300 ,I really like both for different reason's both do different thing's better than the other. Thanks to all who attended ,hope to ride to more of these real soon ,Noel.

Hint, when you upload the photos to Photobucket in the box at the right hand side of the screen the lowest clickable choice is entitled "IMG" (stands for Image I suppose). Simply click on this and it will put the link for the picture straight into your post. It won't look like it initially but if you go to "Preview" before you actually post the message then it will go get the picture and display it for you. And you can put as many pics in the post as you want. Try it, it becomes second nature very quickly. Hope this helps.

I just got home after spending the night in Brisbane.  Got colder and colder past Taree, and even some drizzle on me 6kms from home. After no rain at all since leaving Thursday I thought that was a good deal.  I think I did 3400 or so kms all up, but soem of that was a part day ride having a look around.   Supposed to be 0c overnight as a welcome back.  No shorts and thongs tomorrow   :eek

I will put together some photos tomorrow.

The gentleman driving this car is the grand son of the original owner ,the car had the rear seat stripped out ,and carted wool bales for many years before being left in the property dump, the current owner restored it.

reply from Sat. bike problem at Gaynda
a very big let down that i didnt complete the round trip

but thanx to the willing ST mechanics that help out

Harie wrote:it's not orange, honda gold 50th anniversary model ST1100,

isnt it funny, how people have got into the habit of complaining about lack of customer service and support.
that is mostly true
but Mick's above and beyond has over whelmed me. the bike blew a radiator hose high up at the back of the engine, NOT fixable on the road, rang Mrs. G, asked can she come to Gayndor, and pick me.
I told her i will ring MBCT and HIRE their falcon sedan and bike trailer, for her to drive up Sun. morning
rang Mick, (only known him for a short time) have spent a couple of hundred dollar purchases and been on 3 or 4 of his group bike rides, wouldn't consider Mick a friend, just an acquaintance.
after explaing my troubles on a bad phone line, mick texed me and i quote verbatim "stay sheer you ate harie", i txtd ???
he txtd back "STAY WHERE YOU ARE "
i rang him "what does that mean"?.
his response, " I WILL COME TO GAYNDAR MYSELF when i close the workshop, (this is 12 noon Sat.20th
NOW how can you describe your personal feelings after that IMMENSE EFFORT thank you Mick

Mick's definitely a big-hearted bloke.  A trip out to Gayndah is no small thing.  It would write off his whole afternoon.

Sounds like Mick is a top bloke. Above and beyond, I would say. Well done Mick!

I hope Harie's bike is OK after a new radiator hose and that no damage was done to the engine. Could easily happen, but my fingers are crossed.
