Hi folks,
I ordered a set of PR4s from www.jakewilson.com (http://www.jakewilson.com) some time ago. I finally exhausted my front tyre a few weeks ago (37,425 km) so time to get it fitted. I had ordered them with the intention of taking the tyre in to a local shop to fit. However, since I had to take the wheel off anyway, I thought I'd have a go at fitting it first. Well, no need for the shop.
This video encompasses the whole procedure from first spanner to test ride. It includes removing the tyre from the rim, fitting the tyre using the zip-tie method, seating the bead, and static balance. It makes use of no special tools, just sockets, compressor, tyre levers - plus garden hose, wood, rubber mallet, 2 garbage bins, ... :p

Great instructional video BigTed, and detailed enough that I'd be prepared to have a go myself. I would add that before fitting the tyre to the rim, you need to check that you are fitting the tyre the right way around, to get the direction of rotation correct.

I remove mine and drop it to my guy who is next door to the local coffee shop.....1 Dirty soy chai latte later and $15 and I'm off home again..... :crackup
The bottle Jack from the car is another substitute for breaking the bead under the towbar....on 4x4 tyres we just drive onto the tyre :like

The cable tie trick is a good one to remember.
The "axle pinch bolts" or "axle clamp bolts" at the bottom of each of the forks can fracture/break off the bottom of the fork (seen that, but not on ST's.) if over tightened.
I made this for the job and works a treat.

17mm head bolt with a nut welded on.
Bolt head into axle and ring spanner on nut
I torque the axle up to the 78Nm using the above nut/bolt and then torque the "pinch bolts" to 22Nm.

I have a hydraulic jack which I place under the front of the motor to raise the front wheel off the ground.
The process is similar for the 1100 except for the fender is in two pieces and only the front part needs to come off. Only need to remove the RH calliper (didn't know that until I read the manual) and remove the front ABS (A model only) sensor.
Advise that you don't leave callipers hanging by brake lines alone........support with thin rope/cord attached to handle bars
I take the wheel and tyre to the local tyre dealer....easier for them than it is for me.........lol

I'd like to try this at home but its beyond me. Besides I don't want to deprive Saaz of the pleasure.
What's the secret of getting 37,425 km out of a front tyre? Do you only ride in the rain between temps of 10 and 15 degrees celsius, at night, keeping under 80 km/h on smooth concrete surfaces, avoiding long straight roads, without a pillion or panniers?
No wonder you change the wheel bearings when you change a tyre. :rofl
I'm happy if I can get 17,425 km. I might try 44 psi in future.

Very well put together, I enjoyed watching it!! I also like to work on my bike myself and always take my own wheels off, (front and rear) but in the past I've taken them to the bike shop to have my new tyres fitted.....but, next time around I'll have a go at fitting them myself!
Just one question though, what capacity compressor would be required to seat the bead??

Like lionel I wonder what the secret is to getting 37k km form a front. I can only manage 24. Is it the 44 psi?.
Why does one have to touch the front fender on a 1100? I just jack it up a bit more and the tyre rolls out after taking of the left calliper.
