What price to put on my 2002 ST1300
« on: March 11, 2025, 11:42:40 AM »
Not riding anymore so the bike sits in the shed and is now unregistered. In general it runs well although it does get the F1 error over 4200rpm, in fair to good condition (no dents or gouges), with a few farkles such as cruise control, adjustable windscreen, rebuilt seat (by the guy in Goulburn), grip heaters, tank cover and bag, plus a few other bits and pieces.
Red, approx 150,000km.

Any ideas, I was thinking of $2-4000.

.... it does get the F1 error over 4200rpm ....

Would be a worry to me, and many others, otherwise ....

Any ideas, I was thinking of $2-4000.

Very cheap.

Have you had the ....

... F1 error

... diagnosed?

In response to my questions (in blue), my ST1300 man reckons ....

Mind you, it's not something I'd tackle, I'd take it to a shop.

In the meantime, some pics posted here might help.

Oh!!,  I know what the error is/means. Its the knock sensor(s) interface to the computer. For some reason, that first generation of ST1300's (and the CBR's and Blackbirds of the same vintage) had that problem. Mine didnt occur until I had done well over 100,000km's, but I believe the only fix is to replace the ECU and probably the knock sensors and harnesses.
I just pull the clutch, flick the kill switch off then back on and restart and all is well until it occurs again. Limits me to 110 km/hr  o:)

I havent tried replacing the sensors, but did try replacing the ECU. This worked for quite a while and then failed again.

Aftermarket knock sensors aren't particularly expensive so it may be worth replacing them... :popcorn

Thanks Rusty, I ordered sensors with cables for Honda Pilot/Acura. Last time I looked at them I discovered that the connector was damaged and found that the pilot ones were the same, though the harness length etc is different. I'll just graft the cables together away from the engine block.

I would think $4k would be a minimum.
