Uhf communications

Hey team, I'm heading around this mighty country in July 16 and was thinking about UHF communications for the ST. I was hoping for a mount system and some sort of headset connection. Any suggestions?

A waterproof 5W (legal limit) and a 4.5 dB antenna or a 1/4 wave antenna. A 9 dB antenna will give you longer range in flat country but won't work as well in the hills.

 Also a Sena SR10 which comes with a push to talk switch and a interconnect cable to your chosen radio and either a Sena blue tooth headset or an Interphone Headset.

I had an iCom 400 pro on my bike, which is industrial grade and programmable up to 25 W

I'm using a Uniden 5 Watt handheld UHF CB, mounted with a RAM mount, and connected via a Starcom 1 Digital from Dale McLean.    The Starcom is a hard wired system and bike powered, and I've mounted a Press To Talk button on the left grip.  This system has been most reliable for the past few years.

I have a GME  TX3500 mounted over the dash. Its not waterproof, but has been there for years, in all weather and not got wet. Its coupled through a Sens SR10, to feed audio to and from the helmet via bluetooth. Helmet has a Sena 10S.  I have wired the highbean flash button to act as the transmit button.

Antenna is a GME 3.5db I think, mounted down the back  of the bike. I have tried a couple of hand held radios, but found the performance to be poor, as the squelch had to be turned up to kill background noise.

Dale should be able to supply most of these parts.

They have a problem with one of the fundamental freq's of the Bluetooth. Not enough filtering on the input stage and they "hear" the BT nearby as squelch noise

I had the Uniden UH-052 in 4WD with a 4.5 dB antenna. The front end and IF filtering were so bad, that when I drove around Brisbane, it would pick up:

- Pathologoy couriers
- Police comms (I once heard entire details of a young female pulled over for speeding)
- Faulty Foxtel and Optus Cable junctions
- Bad junctions in HV and LV power lines.

Or in the country, it was fantastic because the 5 Watts gave it good coverage.

Correct. it was the 076, tho I do have the 078 as well, both are susceptible to any electrical noise. Unfortunately, there are very few handhelds these days that can transmit while being fed external 12 volts...
