I must admit I was more than a bit cheesed off when I got home from Kangaroo Island last week, but after the hotel said they refunded my money and I had calmed down a bit I decided to have another crack at it. Like last week I arrived at Cape Jervis in the dark, but this time I already had a reservation for the first ferry of the day.
When said ferry arrived it already had a load of punters from the island who looked ready to drive off.
No heading to the west of the island this time. This was the road to D'estree Bay.
I'm looking forward to seeing some more photos then. The first ones you posted are great.
I think the weather did play a part in that. Sadly this day started off cloudy although it would eventually clear up. I see more blue sky in this photo at D'estree Bay than I actually recall seeing when I took it.
I'm sure we all dread this moment... dropping your key. Fortunately I had only taken a few steps from the bike and the ground was white.
I'd ridden to Parndana last week but didn't take any photos there. After a refuel and caffeine break I was back on the road.
Earlier this year two thirds of the island was destroyed by bush fires. I saw evidence of that everywhere on this trip. It's amazing how nature has the ability to regenerate though. I snapped this at Duncan. Duncan is such a dodgy name.
I saw a lot of roadsigns that also suffered during those bushfires. This one in Newland was one of them.
I had hoped to go to Cape Borda and rode three or so kilometres of the dirt by the time I saw a sign saying it was another 28km. Unlike the dirt I had ridden prior to this (both on the day and the previous week) this was rough, corregated dirt and I said stuff this and turned around before taking this photo in Gosse.
Next stop, Flinders Chase National Park. It's said this is the most photographed road in the park.
No not really. This is:
Both were taken from Bunker Hill. I've seen the latter posted just about everywhere.
I saw these seals at Weirs Cove and would see many more close up at Admiral's Arch.
I may not have got to the Cape Borda lighthouse at Caursarina island but I did get to the Cape Du Couedic lightstation in Flinders Chase.
I couldn't find a name for either of these two rocky islands but the closest one looks like a dolphin.
Admirals Arch was well worth the walk to get here. There are more seals at the bottom.
Like the road seen from Bunkers Hill this particular rock at Remarkable Rocks is another I have seen posted on various platforms many times.
Sadly much of the National Park was closed off because of bushfire damage and safety concerns (actually many parts of the island also suffered this fate) but even what I could see was worth the entrance fee.
This cabin at the Western KI caravan park, Karatta was my room for the night. No such dramas this time and I slept like a log.
I'll post a report on the return leg of this trip tomorrow.
