As I did last year I made a point of having a good days riding on the last day of the year, an added bonus is Teela came to, blazing away on her little ZZR 250.
it was a very simple trip, Toowoomba to Yarraman, over to Kilcoy, have lunch, and then come home via Somerset Dam, and Esk-Hampton and home again.
I have to say it was a beautiful day all the way up to Yarraman, blue skies, good tunes, chatting to Teela via Bluetooth when needed to, could not ask for more!
we left Yarraman about 10.30am, and rode into slow traffic and a wall of heat, it quickly hit 38 degrees, and as much as I love my wind deflectors, today I could have done without them....
it took us an hour to get to Kilcoy due to getting stuck behind several trucks, and plenty of traffic...
we had decided on something different for lunch and we went to the Rok n Country Grill
The Air Conditioning was amazing, as was the service and the food, anyone wanting a feed in Kilcoy, you could do a lot worse than go here!
we were both watered and fed for $40, and the meals where to good for us we could not finish them.
we stayed for the better part of an hour and a half as Teela was feeling the heat, so plenty of water and air con was needed.
when we walked outside I nearly got knocked over (yes I have a desk job now, so feel the heat more than I used to)
turned the bike on and was faced with 43 Degrees on the read out!
I kept telling Teela it would be cooler riding past Somerset dam and into Esk (I might have been wrong)
She has really grown into her little bike, I am starting to have to work harder to keep up with her now, the little ZZR250 is a nimble bloody thing.
after a very hot run through to esk where we had to have another stop to hydrate and try to recover, Teela found lawn and a tree
and of course photobombing me....
the run up to Hampton was amazing, 10 degrees cooler, and it is amazing how much faster and energetic you get when the temp drops suddenly!
all in all it was a great day out, if anyone wants a fun shorter run it is well worth your time to hit these roads....
