I used to play football (the real football with the round black and white ball) as a kid, and even managed to break my shin playing. When I joined the Army I had no car, so I bought a Malvern Star "Moscow 80" Road racing bike and rode it every where within 50 km Radius of Bandianna, then when I moved to Brisbane I played Touch Footy, bought myself a Windsurfer brand Sail board with a 6.4 square meter sail and took that up for Wednesday afternoon sport sailing out at Deagon, Woody Point, Bribiw Island and off shore at Noosa launching from Little Beach and main beach.
When I left the Army I dropped all sport except for going Sail-boarding occasionally. The family was young then, so even sail boarding fell by the way side with taking kids to Gymnastics and other events.
For a couple of year in the late 1990's I played Touch Footy of a Tuesday evening, but then changed jobs servicing SE Qld and was often on the road home when the matches were being played, so I dropped that.
Now I still have the Sail Board in the back yard, gathering mould as I don't have a vehicle that can transport it. I don't play any sport, and my waist is showing it. I have a treadmill which I'm trying to put to good use, still a little to sporadic, but getting better. The spare trye has to go.
As for watching Sport, I've watched all but two Bathurst Races since I was about 12 years old. One was missed while out on Exercise with the Army, and one was for my Son's Birthday. I try to watch all V8 Supercars events, but life and wife sometimes get in the way.
I find it hard to watch bike racing as I want to lean into all the corners and tend to fall out of the lounge chair and of course Pan the Cruise Missile in the garage gets insulted and calls loudly.
As for NRL, I will only watch State of Origin and even then I have my doubts the results aren't rigged to get bums on seats and advertising dollars.
Congratulations Pockey for getting on to the run, bike swim thing.
