Wind deflectors?
« on: April 30, 2014, 03:34:29 PM »
I'm considering wind deflectors for my '95 ST1100 (bars and legs). Has anyone had experience with them, effectiveness, worthwhile etc?

I have had them and believe they are worthwhile.  The only issue comes if you are using over the mirror light mounts, the mirror deflectors become redundant

The deflectors do work. I had to cut a slot in the mirror ones to fit around the police mirror brackets used for driving lights. The leg deflectors would get in the way if you wanted to fit highway blades.

Thanks, are they available in Oz? David Silver Spares have them but the postage is as much as the items. I also enquired about a taller screen.

I think it may be cheaper and quicker from  overseas.  They are more than likely to not be in stock here

Deflector kit availability is patchy even from overseas.

Thanks for your input guys, I've ordered them from David Silver and will let you know my impression of them once I have some first hand knowledge of them.

Cheers all. Stay shiny side up.

I have them and swear by them. You will need longer screws for the leg ones and a couple of pop in rivets.

Hi Mate,
Here is the replacement screen I bought through ebay in the USA.   Didn't take long at all to get here and is far better than the stock one I had on my police version.   Here is the ebay link:

Cheers all,
I have the screen thing organised with a fellow Strider in NSW and the deflectors arrived a couple of days ago. Can't wait to give a work out, but now I'm trying to get a hold of some 3M VHB tape. This is suppose to be the stuff to use on fairings etc when you're too scared to nibble holes through the plastic (ME!) but trying to find it in retail quantities is difficult at best. Any ideas for a Perthite?

Try here, there is a 3M contact in Osbourne Park. Or try RS Components maybe. (Also in Ozzy park/herdsman)

All good now, the deflectors work a treat and combined with the rain shields (foot) and taller screen I should now be able to ride through a swimming pool without getting wet. One question regarding the taller screen thgough, has anyone else experience a slight decrease in stability? Would inserting 'cats eyes' in the screen reduce this as I've noticed an increase in vacuum behind the screen at normal speed?

Thanks for all the input , it's very much appreciated.

A taller screen will always give a slight wavering when following traffic, particulary trucks, it is just turbulent air from other vehicles. The slot above the headlight should be letting enough air through to stop the vacuuming. The 'cats eyes' would do very little I would imagine as they are to the sides of the screen and not where the most vacuum is.

i Know this is an old thread but keen to know how tyou are finding them after all this time.

Are you still happy?

Also do you have any pics and a web site?

What was your total cost for the deflectors??
