Hi everyone ,
Winston66 here,
Well that was a blast, and thanks to Pezzz for a very nice little jaunt.
A total of just on 504 Klms. in one day and five hours since leaving home on Saturday in Northampton,
I really liked the venue (house) at Jurian that Pezzz organised, the biggest hoot was no hot shower this morning to wake me up, we could not find the Hot water switch.
However I made up for it by getting a bit of a cold shower on the way home . The others left a few minutes before me and were heading south into the coming storm cold front and bad weather.
I headed north back to Northampton and managed to stay ahead of the cold front , with strongly gusting head and cross winds up to an estimated at times 40 to 50 klms. per hour.
I just put the ST into fourth gear and set the cruise at about 90 , because of the added drag and mass of the trailer, for just on an hour and a half until about a half kilometer before arriving at Dongara and then it really PISSED down.
The rain was so heavy that I could not see through the bikes windscreen and or my helmets visor and I had to slow to about 25 to 30 Kph. in order to follow the white line on the side of the road and continuously apply the hand brake to light up my brake lights to alert the following traffic that I was there in front of them, I had about 6 vehicles right up my butt at that stage and I did not want to get a shunt in the rear.
I was able to shelter under a veranda at Dongara for a while. and enjoyed a very nice piece of cake and coffee at the local pub.
After about an hour the worst of the front had passed , so on with the wets and off I went , only about 110 kilometers to go,
Basically set the cruise on 90 and just let the bike run in 4th. gear.
The mono wheeled trailer performed flawlesley, I even forgot it was there a couple
of times.
The rest of the run home only had some very light showers, and some drizzle. still had some quite strong gusty windy patches so had to concentrate a lot.
The temperature had dropped to a low of 13 deg. C down from a max of 36 deg. the previous day.
However when I got home at 1;15 pm. I was warm and dry and only a little damp down the back of my neck.
I was pleased to get home and I must say that I enjoyed the whole outing . especially the ride as I feel that I accomplished something by persevering in the adverse conditions ,and now I will feel more confidence in my abilities in similar situations in the future.
I hope that the other members of the group got home safely and enjoyed the outing and the RTE.as much as I did.
Cheers to all,
Winston66, Northampton
