Title: Water
Post by: rendog on December 14, 2011, 11:48:16 AM
So all of us up north know the wet is back.  :fp
And I've ridden right through a couple of doozies lately.
Anyway I pulled up at the lights in Town(sville) on the
way home from work and I couldn't change gears.
Stuck in 5th  >:(   Long story short ...  :thumbs
The shift leaver pivots off the frame, and there are two
small ball joints connecting it to the shift shaft at the
lower right side of the crankcase. The bottom ball joint
had seized up. Maybe it gets full of water?
Ordered one ex Japan, estimated delivery on the 20/12.
Looks like I'll be bussing it to work for the next few weeks.

Anyway, when you're servicing your trusty steeds,
remember to give that lower ball joint a squirt of oil.  :wink1

Cheers,
rendog

It is a good idea to grease those ball joints every year or two. The signs are shifting getting bit stiffer  If you can't grase them, at least squirt some INOX or CRC into them.

When the ST13s have gone 20 years without too many problems then I will consider them...as long as they don't throw all those EFI codes..l

Ha ha, success.
Camel lives again!
Replaced the offending ball joint, speed sensor o'ring and shift shaft seal whilst I was down there.
Another oil & filter change - oh well.
Got the motor back together and fired it up.
Rather didn't fire up  :o
No FI light on the dash. Arrggghhhh, stuff around reading manuals &
forgot to connect the bank angle sensor after pulling the nose cone off  :whistle
OK fire it up, damn exhaust leak from header joint. Farnarckle the pipe around a bit, fixed.
Let it warm up to burn all the oil & coolant off the pipes and engine.
Next check the shift; ummm, why is first at the top now ???  :fp
Must be one of those days  :||||
Replacement ball joint is upside down & back the front. Bit like me  :p
Oh well, Camel is all back together now and fully functioning.
Ride tomorrow, off to Ayr for the day.
Cheers All.

It's nice to have "fun".
At least you had time to work it through and solve it.

I vote we all go and watch 'the dog' work on his bike next time, so we can start our own Youtube comedy capers vid library.       :crackup

Thanks for the entertainment Mark.       :rofl
