Hi All

My name is Rob and I am from Toodyay WA.
I have just purchased a 98 ST1100 and am in the process of giving it some TLC and much needed maintenance.
Looking forward to getting it out on the road.

Curious as to the switches next to the LH fairing pocket. If it wasn't for the colour it looks like a 95 1100A.

It's an ejecter seat for your pillion.

I only queried because the 1100A (ABS) has two switches in that location for the ABS warning light to stop it from flashing and the other one to turn the Traction Control on/off which the standard 1100 doesn't have.

So it's all good except for the mysterious number 6 switch.

A few years ago I had thought about installing a hazard light switch and a driving light switch on the RH side but never got around to it.

Rob,
you have a volt meter, your speedo probably goes up in 2k increments, the headlight adjust knob will be tucked into the right hand side over the rocker cover under the right enine panel. The No 6 switch is to dim the pole light on the police bike.

At a guess, some one has repainted the bike and replaced the right switch block. Under the seat at the rear will most likely be a bundle of strange connectors, used for the police electronics pack.

If as you say it's an ex police bike then it's a 96 or PT because the next one is 2000 or PY then the final 2003P

Under the seat on the cross bar should be a dataplate that will tell you what model it is.

Yes , all correct with what you said except for the bundle of connectors.
Inside most of the covers are white with over spray so good call on respray (professional job).
Compliance plate says 6/98 and has the ST1100PT ID under seat with the Honda colour code NH138 which I looked up and is white.

The wire bundle should be up the back, near the tail lights. If they arent there, a previous owner must have cut them out. Shame if they did, as they are handy for all sorts of mods

Regardless of the 6/98 on the plate it is still a 96 model.

On another forum there has been discussion about ST1100 model and year builds - can you check the 10th character of the VIN as that is the year code for any given year. T = 96 and 6/98 from your plate should be month/year of manufacture; not compliance. Compliance for any vehicle has to be done before it can be sold and compliance for the ST1100 would have been done before 1990. Year 98 in your case should mean a W in that 10th spot if it means year of production or T if it means model year.
