Hello all,
I am curious about the prices of bikes. I have been looking for about three months now. It seems to me that about 95% of bikes advertised then, are still on the market. Is it because people just aren't buying bikes or are the asking prices too much. This is not brand specific, it seems to be across all brands and models.
Having said that, I have bought and sold 2 bikes in the past 5 years. Both bought and sold for a fair price. Just interested in others opinions.
Cheers!!
How long's a piece of string ........
Too many variables to get a straight answer. Whilst you say, "... not brand specific.... ", your are on the OzSTOC site, so the ST1300 must come to mind.
In this case the pre-2013 RRP for the ST1300 was $24,590 plus on-road costs. This meant many of the ST13's you will see from pre-2013 would have cost the owner somewhere around $27,000 with Honda top box on-the-road.
In 2013, Honda dropped the RRP to $15,990, plus on-road. Thus mine (a 2011 plated model) was $18,000 with Honda top box and Oxford heated grips) on-the-road. I paid less for my new bike than what some owners were asking for their earlier bikes with 5,000 to 10,00km.
All the news one are gone, the value of a second hand one won't (may not) settle for a while. The dealers will most likely set a price they are confident of getting relative to the competition.
In the end it's all relative, what choices / alternatives a buyer has, Kawasaki offered $5,000 of the GTR1400, Suzuki 1250 Bandits were cheaper to start with but then they knocked of another $2,500, Yamaha knocked of $6,000 from the superceded FJR13. The blokes preparing the Redbook must have a headache.
Some of the bikes are going for near new bike prices (when they bought them), but some have recently bought brand new bikes for around $10,000 . Who is going to buy a 2008 1300 for $14000, even with low Ks and a few farkles...
Not now, but if I was still looking for a new or near new ST1300, ME ME ME ...
