Big Boots to Fill
« on: December 03, 2015, 11:20:31 AM »
Hi all,

I wear an Australian size 15 shoe and have been unable to find motorcycle boots to fit. I tried some Forma Eu size 50 boots, (which were described as a size 16 equivalent), but these were too tight and the sole was about 20mm shorter than my size 15 steel blue steelcaps that I have been wearing to date.

I recently got offered a spot on a HART advanced rider training course, but there is a strict requirement that I wear motorcycle boots to participate :cop...Im a bit bummed as Im not sure Im ever going to be able to take this course...which is ironic that my inability to get safe gear is stopping me from learning to ride safer...I reckon I need the course more than others BECAUSE I don't have access to the proper protective gear :p

Does anyone know of a make/model of bloody big boots that might fit?  Or a custom bootmaker in Vic that might be able to help me out?

cheers

Al

Hi Al - whilst I understand you said you need motorcycle boots to participate - I would email them with your concern and propose a different solution....
I have large clod hoppers too (13) and recently changed from MC boots to these steel capped, high ankle Blundstones...

I believe they are every bit as safe as MC boots (and even safer in certain steel capped aspects) - they have the 'quick release' zipper, probably come in your size, and... are like 'swags for your feet' in terms of comfort.    :thumb

Hope this helps.

I have just started wearing these particular boot about three weeks ago.  I must say that I do like the zipper aspect of these and they are actually quite comfortable on the STeed.

I will be doing a SS1600 in two weeks with these particular boots so will be happy to report back on them if you send me a reminder PM after Chrissy.

Thanks guys...I did contact HART and explained my predicament..their response

"It is not acceptable to wear steel cap boots or leather shoes, it is a requirement to wear motorcycle boots for the Advanced 2 and Advanced 3 courses."

I see Rossi have some M/C boots in a 14...might be worth trying on if I can get someone local to stock them.

I have the same Blundstones, except no steel toe cap, I dont like the cap as you cant feel the shift properly, and no steel toe cap fits my foot properly.

You are right Alistair, the 811 Vision is only up to size 14.

Have you measured your size as per their sizing chart? Maybe if once having done that you may be able to talk to them about a m'cycle boot being made/adjusted to your size?

There is the option of visiting a real boot maker, and having them custom make a boot for you. It might cost a bit to have made, but theywould out last a comercial boot.

Yeah, I figured I might need a bootmaker and am keen to look into the price and product they can deliver...so far my google searches have turned up very little so if anyone knows of a Vic based bootmaker I would be keen to check out this option.
