Well on Sunday I thought it was time to take the ST1100 out on a good run to see what its like, I have ridden it a couple of times for short runs with my wife on but I wanted to see just how good it was on a good decent ride.
Well its not the longest ride by any means but we rode from Gympie down to Cotton Tree, had some fish and chips and a walk around then rode back to Gympie via Nambour. I must say that our back sides

were getting a little sore by the time we got home but boy was it a great ride. You really feel like your on a safe well made machine I just cant get over how well these bikes handle and perform for there size and weight.

If it's the longer ride you seek from your ST there is a number of quality aftermarket seats to choose from......or even a simple Airhawk or Lambs wool may be enough to add a couple of hours in the saddle.

Thanks for sharing your ride story. A couple of hundred kilometers is a good start, and with practice and experience, you will extend your distances and find trick to keep comfortable along the way. The ST is a truly great long distance tourer. Have a look at the lists of farkles that members have made to their bikes to make them more comfortable or better adapted for the long hauls. Glad to hear you are enjoying your purchase.

As Chris and Pete said, simple mods to the seat (or after market seat) can make a big improvement in comfort as can handle bar risers.

Not forgetting highway pegs, which are no doubt in the farkles list. They're my second fave after cruise control. Airhawk comes third. Or maybe second. Or something.

'Normal' rides for me, (500 Km or so) I don't even bother to pull the lambswool onto the seat... on longer trips, the lambswool makes it so much more comfortable at the end of the day.

Small trips lead to larger ones.....

mmm... that reminds me... I am expected in Townsville again next October, about 2900 Km each way ... I better start putting some petrol money aside...

The ST1100 & ST1300 are truly a touring machine with or without a few mods
Next you will be telling us about your first overnight trip on your ST

Thanks everyone that commented on my first outing on the ST, and funny you should mention overnight rides Kev, this March I'm riding down to Canberra to meet up with my son then we are riding to South Australia on a 2 week ride together, lots of camping and storytelling.
Will be a proud time for me as 15 years ago I was unable to do much due to injuries from my Army days back in the 70's - I have a shoulder replacement and a hip replacement on the left side but I had been on painkillers and antidepressants for so long that my stomach was in a horrible state, I lost my beautiful wife in 2000 due to an illness and had two teenage boys to look after pluss deal with my depression.
Its taken a while but I got back into riding in 2006 with my Dominator NX650 and haven't looked back. I had a second shoulder replacement in 2011 to rectify the first that didn't work very well as I had only 25% use of my left arm so I had to strap my shoulder with a bandage so I could ride a bike.
I have another wife now as time does heal a little and we have to move on.

Hi Mark, if you have access to the web site when you are over in SA. Do not hesitate to put it on the site. Some of the SA people could meet up with you for a mini RTE. could also show you some bike roads on the outskirts of Adelaide. Cheers.

(ex Army myself, RASIGS) I have been waiting since 2009 for a knee replacement, some days are good, some days not so good, mainly ok, tho'

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone
I love just having a bike in the shed and tinkering with it, I also love 4x4's as well but bikes are what keeps me young at heart.
The only problem with getting old is that we start to loose our strength so if they fall over its ask for help

any way I really like this site and hope to bump into some of you in the not so distant future.

Just to establish my turf as an inf man, 74-78 6RAR Enoggera, 80-88 Prison Officer First Class Townsville

Max security Prison, 86-92 49 RQR Wacol Cpl training, 92-93 9RQR Yandina-Gympie acting Sgt and Cpl as well.

This may explain some of my injuries lol.
