Blue in for a service. ... might be expensive
« on: January 20, 2016, 10:33:42 PM »
Well I thought I treat old Blue to a full workshop service since 2015 had been a busy year.

I placed the ST into a young guy just starting out on his own with a new repair business at Coolum. I did this after a long talk with him and thought I'd support a new local young start.

I arrived at his workshop where he only had a couple of bikes in the shop to be worked out. So I was impressed with the way he operated so far. He took the bike and wheeled it into the Shinny, clean, new and sparse workshop. I said ok I'll leave it with you having already discussed what was needed to be done.

He said wait don't go just yet I'd like to inspect the bike while your here. So he had a look around the bike torch in hand. As hedid he found the front left fork had blown, I looked and there was oil seeping everywhere, I'd only washed the bike the day before and didn't see a thing. He also had a look at the top bearing on the tree, I said I thought it may have been time to service it.

So he's phoned me with parts prices and so far I've found him good with good communication. Although I don't have the bike back yet and so can't judge the end result II'm happy so far, he talked to me, pointed out what was needed where as at the dealership it goes in behind the big door and that's it......

I'll keep you posted and for any Sunny Coast riders I'll post his details...

Sabie,

I would be VERY interested in hearing the final outcome for this young fellow as I am looking for a good Mech down that way.

Is he working on your ST or another , bigger bike??

the all important question is:

Do you feel happy with:

The workmanship?

The value for money?

Final cost?

The communication process between mech and owner (you)?

Cheers,

I haven't picked her up yet as Paulines at work today and tomorrow so I have no way of picking her up.

As for the work, front fork and bearing needed to be done and he has stuck to the price quoted. Same for the service and the radiator repair was a last minute job I asked him to to.

So when I pick her up and ride her I'll see about performance and  let you know.

All that fork picture aside I took my bike to a dealer as Ive relocated.
Simple job . Fit a front tyre.
Never new a PR3 came in 18"

And its important to kick the shit out of the seat while doing this front tyre.

If this guy rings your bells and your getting the goods then your lucky and your bikes in good hands too.

heres the edit.

Have any of you guys noticed that a dealer that sell's mountains of quad bikes have limited workshop quality on the road bikes they service?

Yep.....very much so, the reasonable young (40 year old) Honda workshop foreman down the road from me said when I took my old ST1100 in to set up a servicing regime....."Nice looking bike" ***you ready for this*** "Who makes it".... "WHO MAKES IT"  :||||  :||||

I always question them to see if they know about the ST. Also if they know how to take the panniers off that's a positive sign.

All the dealers in Alice springs carry dirt bikes and one or two road bikes if you're lucky and the Honda dealer well 3/4s of his floor stock is dirt bikes and the other 1/4 is harleys I went in to get some crush washers for the banjo bolts for the brakes on the 1100 he didn't even know what they were and didn't have the right size work that one out.
