Hi all , Question for all the 1300 owners out there. I am about to unleash my VFR800 onto the unsuspecting public. I want to service it soon and have discovered that the ST1300 engine oil filter is the same as the Vfr. ie a K&N-204 or Honda equivalent. My question is this, is there a generic filter available IE Ryco etc that is as good as the genuine? Thanks all in advance.............................................................

Nigel I got the 204 from oil place on corner of dorset and barry st in Bayswater. Its all I use so I have a ryco you can have if you want.

Hi all bit confused now. Z436 is listed as part of the 1100 filter range as well. Gary what numbers are on the filter you have? Thanks Nigel

They use the same filter as with quite a few other models and brands - keeps development costs down as it's been proven

I'm currently at one spare oil filter, which will go on the ST13 next weekend with an oil change (will probably clock over 40,000km on the Omeo weekend).

I haven't had to buy a filter for around 10 years since I bought a pack of 10 from a Honda dealer (Redwing Honda in Heidelberg, VIC) when they had a clearing sale before the liquidation.

Go to SuperCheap or Autobarn and get the Ryco Z436 or SCA436.

Just managed to get two Ryco RMZ119 oil filters on eBay for $23.58. The 1300 is overdue and the 1100 is nearly due for their oil changes.

Already tried the other suggested Ryco sizes suggested plus the Repco one so I'll see how this one goes.

Looking at the specs it would be comparative to OEM size

Another answer to your above question is that the OEM tool for removing the oil filter also fits.

Just by-the-way, the lovely tool illustrated above just skids around the Super Cheap Auto clone of the Ryco 436. Theirs is called the SCA436. Theirs is cheaper, but I'll pay a bit more for the ease of getting the filter on and off, thank you. The amount of arc available to swing any tool in the vicinity of the oil filter is minuscule because of the exhaust and centre stand. With a cup like the above you can use your socket ratchet handle with a short extension bar to the socket. The version I have also permits a 1/2" drive to slot straight in.

Several years ago I ordered a triple pack of OEM filters from David Silver for the 1100 and the pictured tool came with them; I could never get it to work on any aftermarket filter I've used until this one.

That's good buying, incl postage. As I recall they're $15 at Super Cheap Auto.
Repco give 10% off for RACQ members. But they need to, because they're 25% dearer on most things.

I completed the 1300s oil/filter change today.

My only complaint is that the position of the oil filter is stupid. At least on the 1100 the oil drain pan can be placed under the filter to catch most of the oil out of the filter; not so with the 1300 with the centre stand being in the way. Thanks to an old piece of carpet and a suitably arranged plastic garbage bag I prevented most of the oil from spilling onto Tammie's garage floor.

The filter that came of the bike was OEM and the Ryco RMZ119 that I put on was the same size.

Now you know what we have all suffered. I've seen a suggestion of using aluminium foil to fashion a funnel of sorts around the centre stand to direct to the front the oil that drops as you pull the filter away from the thread.
In the final analysis, a pan hard up against the front of the stand and an ice-cream container behind it, all on cardboard or newspaper will at least catch a lot of it and protect the floor. That's about the best you can hope for.

Not that it affects any of our ST's but I was told that if you replace an OEM oil filter with an after market brand you will void your warranty. Something to keep in mind if you have a bike that is still under the manufacturer's warranty.
