Please, guys and gals... be careful out there.
Always be aware of other drivers! A quarter of this years road toll in Vic has been riders, and not always their own fault.

Yep Kev i am hearing ya.  I came as close to being  wiped out as i ever want to come on the Lions road last weekend  Stupid cow nearly got my girl who was riding a 100m behind as well. I was in the dirt on the left and i literally could and should have slapped her across the face as she cut through a blind corner completely on the wrong side of the road. Half a meter wider and i would have been through the windscreen.

One would hope that they would actually advise the number of accidents errors of judgement as a more accurate way. e.g. one crash, two drivers both dead or one crash (worst case) 10 people dead (5 each car)

All anyone can do is be pro-active with their road safety.

I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

I was in the road safety business for a lot of years.  Law enforcement, better crash protection in motor vehicles, driver education, improved road design and engineering etc have all had an impact on lowering the road toll but one thing we'll never control is the mentality of some motorists.  I learn't that you can fix many things but you just can't fix stupid!

:blu13 Riding into the city today to renew my security license. coming to to an intersection, female driver on my left checking her phone, checks left then proceeds to pull out in front of me, middle of the 2 lanes she finally sees me and stops dead in middle of the lanes (blocking both). ME grab a handful of front brake, a little of rear, slowing, slowing.... BUMP! my front wheel meets her door and crumples it  :grin Get off bike check mine for damage, NO damage...Tell her what an inadequate driver she is  :cuss need to check left then right. NOT phone  :phone, left then go :well and then rode on a little shaken but ok.
Maybe 3k further on i come to another intersection, Taxi sitting in the middle of the intersection.....couldn't make up his mind which way to GO. I gently reminded him he's in an intersection with a blast from my AIRHORN   :-((( sometimes i wish people would learn  :rofl :rofl :crackup :blu13left

Look at your fingers... add a couple... each one of these riders has family and friends.... and remember, this is just Victoria.

Can we afford this?

Don't let the statistics stop you doing what you love! if in doubt as to the safety on our roads google the road toll in the 70's & to put it into perspective google the corresponding population, those really were the days when sex was safe & motorcycling was dangerous!

Sadly I've just learnt that the Dale Hardy, the motorcyclist seriously injured on the Bruce Highway near the Pine Rivers bridge on Friday 4th Feb 2016, has passed away as the result of injuries he sustained in the accident.

Dale was a friend and client of a friend of ours.

He was traveling south on the Bruce and was hit by a northbound ute which had been hit and sent out of control by another car. The ute also took out two other cars.

As a result, most mornings now the Bruce variable speed zone is set for 60 km/h. Decent guard rails or barriers would have prevented this accident.
Cheers,
Gary

:blu13 My niece had a similar incident when a speeding car lost control and smashed into her car sending her down into the gully area and up into the oncoming traffic on the other side, narrowly missing a fully loaded semi.
