Staintunes on an ST1300 and Engine Tuning
« on: March 01, 2016, 05:36:22 PM »
When I purchased Staintunes for my 1300 I also purchased a Staintune Fuel Injection Control unit which I have not installed.
Has anybody installed one with their Staintunes?
Has anybody done any other tuning when fitting Staintunes?

I have had Staintunes fitted for a couple of years now . . Did no other adjustments to the bike . . Seems to go well. What is the Staintune Fuel Injection Control Unit supposed to do? And how much was it? Is it something like a Power Commander?

Sorry Glen I can't help you on the Staintune Fuel Injection Control as I have just picked up a second hand set on flee Bay
a couple of weeks ago.
Mine never came with the removable restrictors so is a bit loud, on the Staintune site they have Standard road restrictors
or large volume road restrictors has anyone got any comment on them
Sorry about the  :hijacked Glen  :grin

Think I ordered my Staintunes the day after I ordered the bike, October 2008.
Sorry can't find the invoice so have no idea how much they cost.
My restrictors have never been installed, I like a little noise.

Thanks Glen
I have only been for one ride since fitting the Staintune, they were good until I rode under a shopping center
They were quiet loud. I felt like everyone was looking at me like I'm a wild bikie but really I am just a Wild Rose  :grin

Without the restrictors fitted you risk getting a defect notice along with the appropriate fine.

I have been waiting to see if they can find them
On the Staintune website they have 2 restrictors for $35 each plus $10 postage so $80 delivered
They have a standard one and a large volume one. But I guess you are better to go with the Standard one

Getting back to your question about the Staintune Fuel Injection Control
I remember this came up a year or so ago about fitting a power commander to the ST1300 and someone said
You get no advantage fitting one to the ST1300 because of the type of motor it is
Does anyone recall this, I will have to do a search

Once again Glen Sorry about the  :hijacked but I thought it was related  :grin

Thanks Leo, an interesting readf. I certainly don't want more power but would be interested in any improvement in fuel consumption.
The FI control unit may have to go on Gumtree rather than sitting in a box.

Originally fitted Staintunes mainly to get a nicer exhaust note with possible performance (power and fuel economy) improvement. Bonus was they are considerably lighter.

I weighed them and found the Staintune are 3kg each lighter than the OEM ones
I wish I could also loose a few kg's that easy :think1

They have a standard one and a large volume one. But I guess you are better to go with the Standard one

I saw that and wondered whether it referred to the inside diameter of the restrictor . . I guess the outside would have to be the same diameter . . I did a run sometime ago with John, SAAZ, following and he dropped back aways saying they were too loud to follow for any great distance, I put the restrictors back in at the next stop.

I got this from the Staintune web siteDescription

Large Volume Road Restrictor,

Will fit all Staintune mufflers with 48mm ID Angled Spouts.

Made From 304 Stainless Steel, Comes with M6 button head screw and washers.

This is a Large Volume replacement for all Staintune mufflers with 48mm angled spouts.

This Restrictor Has better flow rate then Standard Road Restrictor and will still reduce noise levels

Standard Road Restrictor,

Will fit all Staintune mufflers with 48mm ID Angled Spouts.

Made From 304 Stainless Steel, Comes with M6 button head screw and washers.

This is a standard replacement for all Staintune mufflers with 48mm angled spouts.

I read on the US site, that some had spent a lot of money on the 1100 and 1300 , chasing more performance / fuel , including dyno checks . It turned out, that for the large amount of money and work , there were only marginal benefits.
