fuel and food advice for SS 2000 K
« on: May 26, 2016, 03:57:08 PM »
Howdy.

Looking for fuel locations and food locations in or around the following locations:

Emerald - QLD: time req' aprox 0618 hrs

St George-QLD: time req' aprox 1534 hrs

Dubbo - NSW: time req' aprox  2138 hrs

What I am after if possible is a multifucntional road house / petrol station that has good fuel and reasonable food.    The food is secondary as I can always organise my own food  :popcorn :popcorn  for a particular time and location by bringing it with me on the  :bl11  but the fuel on the other hand is kinda not negotiable.   :p

I am working on about 6 hours ride time between each location give or take 15 minutes.

If I get somewhere early I can give my self a bonus rest.     :thumbsup

All input gratefully received.

Dubbo is easy- at least 2 x 24 hour servos plus McDonalds all on Mitchell Hwy south side.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Caltex

102-106 Victoria St
St George
QLD 4487

 07 46255322

Open 24 hours.

If you're paranoid, you can ring those numbers to be sure.
It's surprising how many tiny towns have 24 hour servos.  Many offer acceptable food as well.

Paranoid???? who ??? me!! never!!!!      :rofl :rofl :rofl

I have looked on the interwebby and found some but it was more if I had missed a road house or similar before or after the towns stated.

Also want to make sure I don't go to a really bad place where others have had really crappy service.

Cheers

I would not plan an SS2000 with 6 hour rides between servos in case one servo is shut or closed because of an electricity outage. Don't ask me why I make this suggestion.  :||||

Too true.  Three hours is plenty, and even an SS2000 doesn't demand 6 hour legs.

I'm planning on a 37 liter fuel capacity with a 10 liter spare.

i will be stopping in a couple of other places along the way to get re hydrated and pick up extra receipts to show the route and extra fatigue management stops.

These are just the major identified fuel stops in my plan

On long trips I carry muesli bars and savory biscuit snacks, and have a nibble at each stop, rather than eat a bigger meal at traditional meal times.   This will keep my energy levels up and prevent a "food coma" from eating too much all at once.

Good choices.
There's an LDR saying, "sugar makes you sleepy", so my nibble food goes the protein and carb direction- roasted salted almonds are my numero uno fave.
Crunchy apples are refreshing while not overly sugary.
Lots of hardcore LDRers eschew coffee, but I freeze a couple of litres made on 100% milk, carefully wrap one to prolong the freeze, and lightly wrap the other to absorb the condensation.  Then after a few hours the first is ready for a swig and the other is ready in another few hours (or more).
That also saves time buying food and drink.

I too like coffee and as it is a normal part of my diet it would be counter productive to remove it from my list of consumables. I actually get the caffeine headache if I don't drink at least one coffee a day...... so there it is folks .... I have a caffeine addiction

Spanner

I was caffeine addicted until my heart decided otherwise.

It has been 14 months since my last coffee and that was a fall from the wagon after 4 years.

I can fully relate to the withdrawal headache. So glad I'm past that stage.
Cheers,
Gary

You're not a lone. I found giving up smoking was easy but caffeine is another story but I rarely drink coffee. Good old Coke and also loaded with sugar which I gave up in favour of Pepsi Max - no sugar (they say) but the caffeine is still there.
