A. "There is obviously a drop off in the number of people participating north of the greater brisbane area".
I left Mackay about May last year and am back in the land of the long white cloud. However while in Central QLD I noticed that it was hard to attend RTEs just because QLD is so bloody large. An RTE in the Brisbane area meant a round trip of about 1800 km and double that for a member from Cairns, while working I found I just didn't have the time to travel to and participate in RTEs.
What about local "son of RTE"s, say a get together for from Central QLD up to Cairns maybe in or out of Townsville, longer range members could travel to it if they wanted to, but it would be smaller distance to ride with a chance to meet people for only a weekend out of the busy schedule.
B. "It would be interesting to know if people have disposed of their ST due to age of the bike and no reasonable replacement and has that been the reason interest has dropped off or people are just too busy now days or have just lost interest, or don't like the way things are run or the people in the club ...... Would be nice to know but we never will".
Sold Norma Jean when I returned home to Kiwi-land. Still come on the site and keep up to date, but couldn't afford to bring the ST1100 home with me. Wolfrider has proposed a joint ride around the Coromandel Peninsular this weekend, but I'm tied up. But we will probably manage to have an eastern island RTE one day.
C. "I personally think there are too many RTE's. If there was one every 3 months I think that would be better. But that's just my opinion and others will no doubt see it differently. Everyone has busy lives these days and most also usually participate in more than one riding group or club. So to be doing a ride every month makes it hard for everyone to attend. I think if the RTE's were a bit rarer you would likely get a larger attendance".
One every 3 months would still run into conflicts with people's arrangements, I'd think a monthly or 2 monthly RTE if it could be arranged, but with a lowered expectation of the number of people who can turn up. Maybe smaller numbers on a fortnightly ride, say Brissie members ride up to Rocky, and Central QLD members ride down. Depending on the members it could be a stop over or just a lunch and turn around and head home (I did go from Mackay to Rocky for a burger one Saturday, then headed home - 780 km trip for a not outstanding burger).
