Front Rim
« on: June 15, 2016, 06:26:45 PM »
Does anyone know if there is a difference between a standard rim and an ABS rim. All part numbers are different and I need a cheap rim as I am a cheap ba....d and it was tight arse Tuesday yesterday. Dont know what Wednesday is today  :fp

From what I can find the rims are the same size only different tyres to suit 1100 and 1100A. Part numbers I think are more related to wheel colour and supplier if that changed at anytime.

General Comments
For the 1996 model year, along with some other minor changes, the stock front tyre size on the ST1100 was changed so that the bike could use radials.  The rim sizes were unchanged.  This means that there is no reason not to run an earlier-model ST1100 on radials -- all that changed was the tyre specification, not the rim.

I have a 96 ex-police ST1100, the front is a 3 inch rim. I also have a 99  model ST1100, the front rim is 3.5 inches. The 99 is machined to suit the ABS ring whereas the 96 is not.

I suspect both wheels are different but the only site I found says both are the same. Wheel specs aren't in either the owners or work shop manual; only tyre sizes.

If you are still looking. I went to a local bike wrecker this morning and he has a near complete 1100 he is wrecking.  $220 for the front wheel.

Yes I am still looking and will contact a couple of people in the next few days. The freight cost is the thing.
