SPOT Device needed
« on: August 11, 2016, 10:25:32 AM »
Hi all,

Does anyone have a SPOT device lying around that they no longer use?  I'm looking to purchase one second hand.  Happy to pay out any remaining subscription too.  I would need it before September 23.

Cheers

Wendy

Put it in your jacket pocket then if the worse case arises and you come off the bike and can't reach the bike then hopefully you can still use the SOS function

No offence as each to their own but I have never and will never mount a SPOT or any emergency device to the bike. If you go down and are seperated from the bike with injury the bike cannot push the buttons for you. Yes I wear mine and yes I have gone down with it...device has kept working and I have suffered no injury from it even on 2 occassions of the device taking the impact...so I would suggest to those with it mounted to the bike that maybe you could reconsider the options available to you.... :thumbsup

And for those with a Gen2 like me they came with a brilliant arm band and caribeener....for SPOT Gen3 this is the equivilant...https://giantloopmoto.com/product/tracker-packer-spot-gen3/ or like I did before these came out looped it with a double sided velcro strap that worked for 4 weeks of ADV riding in the US when I first bought it..

I, like Wendy, have yet to bite the bullet and invest in a Spot Tracker, but definately close to getting one.

I would be using one for motorcycling, bush walking, skiing and 4wd driving. Obviously when walking or skiing I would be wearing the device. I have seen a number of bikes using the Ram mounting system but as BrookeSTer and WAG have pointed out, if things go pearshaped, having the Spot on you would be the way to go. . . . Thanks for that valuable advice guys . .

I absolutely agree with the having the SPOT on you practice and why it makes good sense..... :like

But I will just add this to the equation....I attended to a cruiser rider who came off his ride some years ago while wearing a leatherman on his hip. His main injury was multiple fracture's to his pelvis from where he landed on his leatherman.....

If you wear the SPOT, your arm would be the safest location in my humble opinion......if it stays with you during an off at least a humerus bone fracture may be the worst outcome.....just keep SPOT and anything else for that matter off your chest/back/waist regions. Makes everyone's life easier  :Stirpot
