ST1300 wouldn't start...found the problem
« on: August 20, 2016, 12:33:48 PM »
So a few months back I gear up to go on the VIC RTE to Thoona.
The bike wouldn't start.

It turned over but it was like there was no spark, then I noticed the sound of the fuel pump wasn't there when the ignition was turned on.

After much research and some choice words.

And some phone call from ST2UP and ruling things out like fuses and relay switches and clogged 5-way thingy under the whatsit.

I decided to pull off the cover under the fuel tank and when I took the air filter off I noticed some mice poo  :think1

So some more dismantlement I found the problem

MICE
Luckily I have a guy in town how knows his stuff, and when I rang him to give him the good news.  :|||| :|||| :||||

He said that he would be able to fix that. I said it looks pretty bad, he said nar it'll be ok, At least it wasn't what I was thinking it was

They Definately had a taste for the plastic.   Hopefully the culprits are on the extremely endangered species list or have already become extinct.   Good luck with the repair.

Rotten little chewers!
I can remember when I suffered an episode in Brisbane when I had the turbo Honda 4.... mmm? ... 1974? - 75?

They shredded the main loom wiring, and it took me all day to patch in new cables and heat shrink all the soldered joins.

...and a further 3 days for the air to clear!

Now while you have it all open and repairing, set up a couple of squirrel wheels to put the mice in and whammo . . You have a turbo charger . . .

I wonder how long they had been going for free rides, with a mobile canteen on board- like the restaurant wagon on the Indian Pacific.

Hey ST2UP- we need a new button.  The "Thank" button doesn't cut it when you need a "man hug".  How about a "Sympathy" button?
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
