Hi from FNQ
« on: November 29, 2016, 09:00:12 PM »
Hi All;
I've been building motorcycles for quite a long time. You're welcome to see my pictures at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100005416785849

Recently, I stumbled across a Honda ST1100 and became quite fasinated with the engine. A search on the internet shows quite a few examples of a naked ST. I quite like a naked bike. Easy to get at the components, light weight, and shows off the "engineering" within the machine. The ST1100 is an obvious canadate for this sort of make-over.

I'd like to do one up as my next project. Which is obviously why I've joined this group. I'm sure I'll need all sorts of help.

I hope that changing an ST into something different won't upset anyone..

Norm

Welcome Norm. Those 1100 do look interesting but I do love the ease of cleaning my 1300.
I also love your area of QLD.

Hi Norm.
I think it's great that you're customising your ST.  As others say, they like their bikes faired, as I do mine, but there's no harm in making them into something unique.  I'd be interested to hear what they're like with those exhausts.  You'd drop a lot of weight by losing all the fairing and boxes, which would make the bike very nippy around the twisties.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Welcome Norm. I was born just down the road in Atherton and went to Malanda State School.
My grandfather was the manager of Jack and Newell in Mareeba.
Good luck with your project.

Hey, A local to me :-)
I'm just down the road from you in Atherton, but also work at Mareeba Airport, so hopefully I'll get to catch up with you one weekend! You may have seen my Red ST1300 getting around at some point...

Welcome to the forum, there is a wealth of knowledge here, a few crazys, and some downright strange people but we are a friendly bunch  :thumb

A naked ST1100, why not.. I did it to an old CBR600 and it came up ok... and finding an ST with buggered fairings shouldn't be hard... go for it! I look forward to seeing some progress!

:grin  I was thinking the same thing, and wondering why that wasn't put to bed a year ago, when I realised it was an old thread.

Good to see progress on the project.  I must say I liked the shiny bottom end in one of the sample photos.  The black just doesn't do it for me.
Keep at it.  As panels are destroyed down through the years, we might all be looking at doing this.  IF we can still get rear transmissions!     :o

Hey Norm... Welcome to OzSTOC from another couple of Tropical Nth Qlders... if you can find the time next year, you'd be very welcome aboard anything sleek, naked or gnarly, to join your fellow OzSTOCers at NR2018, here in Mackay... Cheers, John and Kate.
