The "Flying Fox" transaction device was common in the 1950s department stores.  There's one still set up in Laidley, QLD, as a historical item.
The idea was there was only one cash register, and dockets and cash travelled to the cashier in a cylinder on the wire and change and receipts went back.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

When the SA Motor Registration was in the old building at the railway station, they had vacuum tubes for moving documents around between offices.   Documents were put inside a cylinder, and the cylinder would be placed in a tube to shoot it off to it's destination.   See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumatic_tube

Junor's General Store in Kyogle had one in the 1960s & 1970s (and probably well before that).   The cashier was upstairs 1 floor so some of the springs were quite strong for the sales points close to the cashier's point.

I think most Coles Stores still use that system for excess cash in the till as it's the safest way to get the money (notes) to the store's safe.
