I agree wholeheartedly with the author of that newspaper article. The ignorance displayed by many drivers regarding braking distances astounds/infuriates me both as a motorcycle rider and as car driver, especially on wet roads. Looking at some of the responses to the article, I must admit to being amused by the thought of how many drivers I am upsetting when I, legally, lane split. I wonder what people, who are ignorant of the change to road regulations regarding lane splitting, think when they see a cop riding between cars turning their head left and right with their gopros looking for drivers using their mobile phones. I am not silly enough to think that ignorance does not extend to some motorcyclists. I for one have been known, for slow, short rides on hot days, to risk losing a yard or two of skin although strangely I always wear gloves.
