ST1300 rear seat release
« on: April 28, 2017, 01:15:07 PM »
Hi guys, I am after a rear seat release, cable and clips so I can carry pillion passengers on my ex police bike. I have the rear seat from a standard 1300 and will be able to modify that to fit. Willing to pay for items and postage.

I think you will also need to make and weld on some brackets as well. The 1300 isnt as easy to convert as the 1100

Hello Dave
I did a lot of these conversions when they first started selling off the ex police bikes.

Alchemist Dave has actually done a great article with photos on this site to show how to do the conversion.

From memory a new cable and the latch is only about $80 - $90 from Honda.

You will need to cut the two lugs off the rear subframe that the old pod used to bolt onto and if you are using the original single front seat you will need to change the bracket at the rear of the seat over as well.

Regards

Check eBay for seat cable and latch at a fraction of new prices.

Thanks guys, I checked out the link to Daves site and got some good info. Yes I will have to make some mods to the frame but that is to be expected. In the scheme of bike mods it is an easy one. Thanks again.

I want to do the pillion seat mod, but am thinking if there's a way to maybe do a mod where the solo pod can still be put back on, or maybe a hump made to fit over the seat.

Hi Bloodbikes, I thought of doing it that way and came up with modifying the seat by cutting out the plastic in the seat base. I think the frame protrusions would be too high and effect the comfort of the pillion. I am going to cut of the frame supports off with a fine cut hand saw so they can be easily welded back on if required.

I had the idea to remove the front fastenings for the solo pod again with a hacksaw or delicately with a angle grinder, but make it so that I can bolt them back to the frame so I can re attach the solo pod when I want.
