Cheers, Gadget!

Ok, I'll now be based in Ararat from Friday (2 June), so if any Vics are interested I can possibly organise to meet. Just moving from SA, I have no idea how RWC rules work, though (SA rego).

Cheers,

Blerko

Not sure about Vic. but it can't be much different to WA.

While I was over there for a few years I considered moving the bike and car registration over and all I need was proof of rego for the 12 months prior to applying. Anything less than that would have needed a vehicle inspection plus vehicle weight as their system is weight based unlike our engine capacity system.

I bought my 1100 from a girl in Bendigo - we both signed the transfer papers and I handed them into one of our branches. Rego office returned the plates back to Vic after the identity check and all monies paid. Vic sent back a refund for the cancelled registration balance.

Nearly the same bringing a Vic ST1300 to Qld except I had to get a Qld Roadworthy, even though it came with a Vic roadworthy.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Did you have to pay a "special" fee when you registered the new bike Biggles ?
I got slugged the charge when i bought a K1100 brick beemer from victoria because it had not been rego'd in qld before.
My argument against paying the fee was that it was an ex Qld police bike and it had to have  been registered here before.Never attempt logic in a transport office  :whistle

I had some 'difficulties' with mixed and conflicting messages from VicRoads' staff when bringing in a Tasmanian registered bike (XT 600, not that should make a difference), and registering it in Victoria.

There was some disagreement between VicRoads' Bundoora office staff on whether or not I needed an RWC to register the bike in VIC.   It didn't really matter in the end as the rego transfer in VIC is the catalyst for a RWC.

IMHO, I think it would be best for an interstate owner (if coming to live in VIC as indicated by the OP) to bring the bike to VIC, keep the bike in his ownership and transfer the bike rego from interstate to VIC (my understanding no RWC required at this point).  Some administrative, rego, TAC and plate fees would apply, these could mount up to ~ $600 or $700, but could be off-set with a refund on the balance of interstate fees.

The bike should be easier to sell in VIC than in SA (bigger market), certainly if it has 12 months VIC rego.  A RWC would be required on transfer of rego in VIC.  This can be obtained by the seller or the buyer.  If the seller doesn't provide a RWC, he should remove the rego plate and send / take it to VicRoads.   VicRoads will generally send the plate to an office nominated by the seller (usually the closest to the buyer) for the buyer to pick-up once the RWC is presented to VicRoads and fees are paid.

I appreciate everyone's feedback, it was lost insightful. Sounds like the registration rules could do with some national cooperation similar to the road rules a few years back.

Circumstances now require it to be withdrawn from sale. Thanks all!
