Cheers Tony.

You are obviously a friendly bunch around here. Before I bought the ST I was riding the blue 400-four to work, and it must have been Biggles on his red ST who nodded greetings to me even though I was on such an 'ordinary' machine. Nice to know ST owners aren't bike snobs lol.

Eatons Hill- my old suburb!  I'm over at Bridgeman Downs these days.
I even nod at scooter riders, but yes, while I regard the ST as the pinnacle of motorcycle development, I am friendly to riders of all sorts of bikes.  I even nod at HD riders if they're too far away for me to recognise the brand.
Give me a PM for a chat.

Will do Mr. Biggles.

LOL - a comment like "the pinnacle of motorcycle development" would be a red rag to a bull in other forums but I doubt you will get any arguments here. I'm certainly very happy with mine, especially as it's likely one of the newest STs in existence :-)  The only immediate change I am considering is a CalSci screen and wings, and I also need to see if I can reduce the throttle snatch and/or learn how to live with it. It catches me out sometimes when cornering.

I wonder if there's an App for that?
I don't have the problem, but I'm a very sedate rider who is ever-so gentle on the throttle.
Any ideas out there regarding this issue?

I recall a thread, something along the lines of ....... re-setting the ICU (or something like that) by disconnecting the battery overnight, reconnecting, starting the engine, letting it run on the auto-choke until the revs drop to normal idle, and then turning the engine off.

I tried this, smoothed out the throttle snatch for me.

Anyway, if I'm dreaming, someone will wake me up.

I had a couple of little wins with the new Steed today.

First up I tried the trick of resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery and then letting it idle etc. it actually did what was stated although I did need to do a lap of Clear Mountain just to rule out a placebo effect. Much smoother from takeoff and during cornering. I have also ordered on impulse a G2 throttle tamer, so that might help further.

While playing with the battery I noticed the seat was set on medium height, so being a rather short dude I dropped it down to low. Now I feel more like I’m sitting in the bike rather than on it.

As I slowly get the hang of the bike, which is much bigger than any of my previous, I’m really surprised by how nimble and sure-footed it is. I think we are going to be good friends :-). I still need to work on balance though - it shows most when I have Ruth on the back.

The seat is more comfortable for long distance with the front in the middle setting and the back in the low setting  :thumb   :think1 It also stops banging the nads on the tank if you hit the anchors a bit quick  ;-* :grin

Over the years we have met heaps of ST1300 owners who were ready to give the bike away because of the seat position  :o But once they use that tip to adjust the seat, they have gone on to love the bike  :thumbs

Is there any adjustment for the rear (pillion) seat?  A post somewhere suggested there was but I may have misunderstood because I don't see any.

I'm not aware of any adjustment to the pillion seat, other than sending it out to be re-upholstered or replaced with a Russell Day Long, or another after market product.

Quite a few members, including me, have replaced their OEM seat with an RDL.  The difference is fantastic.  The extra bum and thigh support for rider and especially the pillion is well worth (IMHO) the not insignificant extra cost.  Here's a link to the RDL website, follow the pages to the ST1300 pics - https://day-long.com/gallery/honda/

The other nice feature with my RDL for rider, and especially the pillion, is the little turn-up at the front.  This reduces the likelihood of rider, and especially the pillion, from sliding forward under heavy braking.

The RDL turns a 500km per day bike into an 800km per day bike (for me).

My ST doesn’t seem to have a rear adjustment for the front seat. It has the three position adjuster at the front, right behind the tank, but there is no mention in the manual of a rear adjustment.

If I turn my front seat upside down there is (what looks like) a white high-density plastic block with three slotted steps.  When mounting the seat right-way-up, I slip these slots snuggly over two inverted metal loops.

I suspect the base of your ST1300 seat will be these as mine.

I think what Sicman is suggesting is that you position the front adjuster at the middle setting, and then sit the rear plastic block on the lowest setting.

Mmmmm ...... I'm off to the garage to try that ...........

Edit:  Not easy to do, don't want to force things and break something, think I'll leave it alone.

I'm an ST1100 owner,  but seem to remember STinky Pete suggesting a bit of force may be required to get the optimal position.

Well the seat height mod was a win, thanks to the detailed How-to instructions, and last weekend the Steed got its first farkle. I installed a G2 throttle Tamer.  It does make a very significant difference and make the engine much more manageable at small throttle openings.

Of course things don't usually go as smoothly as we would like, and the 30-minute installation procedure turned into half a day for this little newbie.  There was not enough slack adjustment available in the cable at the grip end so I had to dive under the tank and pull out the air box to access the bottom-end adjuster. Like many before me, I found the screws holding the bottom of the airbox to the throttle bodies to be insanely tight so rather than strip them I popped over to see a clever neighbor who does all his maintenance on his K1000. He lent me some hammer-drivers, but also suggested that I give each screw a squirt of WD40 and leave them overnight.  The WD40 did the trick because sure enough, next morning the screws came straight out without even putting up a fight.

Then of course there were some other valuable lessons, like the one where I was putting the last screw back into the top cover of the airbox and dropped it so it fell right down into the throttle area lol.  Then there was the second lesson where I got the top cover back on successfully and put the tank back down and then saw the air filter still sitting on the ground.   Some guys are just not meant to be mechanics lol.

That WD40 trick is a good one.  Another aspect regarding those screws is they are JIS heads (do a search on "JIS" in the forum for more info).
You sure learn things the hard way!  Taking the tank up and down and the airbox cover off can be a real pain, especially if you have bar risers.
