Wow.  They are persuasive figures!  We should have been using LEDs all along, rather than those horribly inefficient filamented things!   :grin

After some trial and error, these are the LED globes that I have settled on.   They have a good high and low beam, with a highly effective  low beam “cut-off”, and the beam patterns are quite flat.   These were recommended to me by Shiney

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2015-New-20W-2-2000LM-2-Hi-Lo-dual-beam-DC12V-6500K-H4-plug-Led-Bulbs/32493093438.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.DlpC82

I've done a fair bit of night riding with these and they compliment my flood style spotties very well, significantly increasing the penetration down the road.   ll get some photos up showing the beam patterns.
Just fitted these but only light up the top half of the headlight reflector as they only have LED on one half of the globe. Dont know that i like that.

That's why I was looking at these - LEDs on both sides and designed for older headlight reflectors like what's on an 1100.

For me the most important thing was more light down the road, in a pattern that gives me a decent high beam and a cut-off on the low beam, and these globes achieve these objectives.   The globes may be designed to reflect from the upper half of the reflector and onto the bottom half of the reflector before going forward, and you'll note that one of the filaments on an incandescent H4 globe has a shield so that light only shines in one direction.    The pattern and amount of light down the road is what counts in the end.   :thumbsup

The top half of the reflector is the standard low beam pattern to prevent blinding oncoming traffic.

The standard H4 incandescent bulb has a shield on the low beam filament for that reason.

The position of the light source is also important because the reflector has a focal point. The High beam filament is in the best point focus. This reflects the light furthest down the road.

Most vehicles switch between low and high beam filaments because of power consumption.

With LEDs its possible to leave the low beam LED on whilst the high bean LED is on. This gives both light patterns at once and more light on the road. This can be done internally in the LED lamp.

Will run with them in and see how they go. Got some night riding coming up in the next week so will give them a good test out on the open road.

After a two hour country night ride last night I have decided to upgrade the bulbs in the 1100 headlight. The runway spots are awesome however when dipping to low beam for oncoming traffic I might as well have turned the lights off with the standard Honda issue globes. So I have ordered a set from (alibaba and the forty thieves). Biggles and Perthcarpenter have you decided if you like them or not? :bl11

I haven't installed mine yet.
They're such a pain in the exhaust to change I'm waiting for one of the original ones to burn out before I tackle the installation.

Yeah I know what you mean. getting all the plastic off and then the struggle with the globes themselves.

On the ST13 you don't have to remove plastic- just all your fingers except the thumb and pointer, and half your wrist.
Or, yes, remove the plastic and then wrestle with the cable connector and spring clip.

Don't need to remove that much on the 1100 and the 1100 police models

Windscreen and the panels in the link. Item 2-6 and 2-7 in the index https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8RtZbSYeKOOUE9QNU9YVUZlZ28/view?usp=sharing

You can also access from underneath the headlight; see here http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=3022.msg30576#msg30576 This the only way I can do it on the 1100A as the ABS computer and other related parts prevent access from the top.

Regardless of which way you do it you might need to turn the forks to give more room for globe you are changing.

I just fitted a pair of cheap LED headlight bulbs.  :hatwave The garage test looks great. I will do a night ride this week to see how they perform in real life. It will be interesting to see if they make my old HID spot lights redundant. However, I think that the HID spots may throw a wider beam.
