Broken Lock in the top box
« on: January 25, 2018, 03:09:01 PM »
Hi everyone. Just checking options about my predicament.

One of the locks on the OEM topbox snapped. David Silver sells whole boxes, but not the lock by itself.
Should I hunt down two new locks to replace the dead & the lonely, or should I replace the whole topbox with something new?
(Or screw a couple of hoops on & use a padlock)

Go and have a chat to a locksmith, who may be able to sort something out for you.   :thumb

I too would be heading to a locksmith before embarking on possibly more (very) expensive options.  I had an occasion to seek locksmith assistance when riding through Tamworth a coupla years back.   What these guys could do and the equipment they had then, blew my mind.  A coupla years on, they should be able to help.

It's a bit past that I think. The cast base of the lock has cracked and then snapped off around the hinge. Need a new lock.

A lock smith may have something suitable to replace the barrel. A pic of whats broken may help.

The barrel is not the issue. When I say it's broken I mean that the latch has broken in twain.

Looks a tad more complicated than a busted key in the barrel.  I withdraw my previous comments.
