Regular Skin Checks

Hi folks,
Around this time last year I had surgery to remove a Melanoma from my left calf, fast forward to this year they found another in the centre of my back, this was removed last Friday. My suggestion to all is the importance of getting checked at a skin clinic close to you. This last one was not presenting as they would normally but once analysis was done it came back as a nasty and they had to do a further excise. My sister was diagnosed with one one her chest and aggressive in nature she was gone under 12 months later.

Currently doing these checks at work. May just go a little further on this as there are plenty of little spots and co on me. There is a specialist local to me so why not!

I have a skin check with a Skin Cancer Clinic every twelve months, and have had a few solar keratosis burnt off, which are pre-cursors to skin cancers.    Get your regular checks please.

What Pete says.  We Queenslanders are famous for our melanomas, so I'm in there once a year.
Being a baldy-lox, when the SCs are frozen off the skull it's a whole new world of pain riding home with the helmet.

I have had over 30 solar keratosis burnt off my face over the last couple of years and to many to count on My arms.  My dermatologist has now moved to the scalpel and we have just started a course of cutting out as many as we can.  Luckily DVA have accepted the costs, but not liability so it has not Cost a fortune.

Holy cow Brian.    I used to go every 2 years, but must admit, I have not been for quite a few years now in spite of having the right side of my nose remodeled many years ago. I will book in again in the next few weeks. A timely reminder. Thanks mate. It is amazing how complacent we become when we get clear reports for a few years running.

On the 8th Jan 2018, I had a Squamous Cell Carcenoma (SCC) removed from the top of my head with a skin graft from inside my left upper arm as the donor site.

The symptoms were an itchy scaley spot that slowly grew in size over 2 years. I thought it was eczema. Moisturizing cream didn't fix it.

Photos are 5.5 weeks post-op.




I'm going to have to do the DVA paperwork.

Too much running around doing PT and sports with crew cut and without a hat and sunscreen during Army service in the '80s and '90s.

I hit DVA up for 6 monthly scans a few years ago, their reply was basically get stuffed so I replied that I was happy to wait for things to develop further and then they could pay for the surgery, they came back with an offer to pay for scans which I now do every 6 months

Yes it does pay to have your skin checked , I have had three skin cancers removed from the right side of my face over a 12 yr period.

Sounds like you were a truckie.  I see their arms out the window all day, absorbing all the ultra-violet sun rays.
