I hope that title is not too long for the forum.  If they crop it this is what it should it read: "Today's bike ride is brought to you by the letter E."

Today I took a short ride to every Adelaide metropolitan suburb that begins with E.  There's four in Gawler in variations of Evanston and quite a few Elizabeths (even though Elizabeth Fields and Elizabeth West disappeared from our maps many years ago).  From the northern suburbs is was down via Enfield to those of Burnside before tracking back to the Port Adelaide area.  That's where I had lunch.  Then I headed south to Eden Hills before visiting the two near my house.

Another good day was had I see.

E stands for enough. I had enough of the city on Thursday when I went down for a work interview. Guess the car need a run.

(even though Elizabeth Fields and Elizabeth West disappeared from our maps many years ago).

Both were changed to a single Daveron Park. No reason was ever stated but the area was almost turned into a ghetto by state housing. Only essential maintenance was carried out.

I guess to save face Elizabeth City council changed the names of the suburbs so the bad image of the area wouldn't be associated with Elizabeth itself. Smithfield Plains and the last suburb to be developed on that side in the 1970s followed the same path as the other two suburbs but being outside of Elizabeth the name stayed the same.

Most people on the southern side of the city around Noarlunga would say the same about Hackam West when we lived in Reynella East/Happy Valley.

Some of Davoran Park is now called Eyre.  That came in on the day I rode off for Queensland and Halls Gap.  Was there ever an Elizabeth City Council?  If so these days it comes under Playford.  I'll have a look later when I wake up.  One of my early thoughts when moving to Adelaide in 2005 was that the suburbs are very small compared to their counterparts in Perth and Brisbane.
