My bike now has a little added 'character'......
« on: April 17, 2012, 05:07:34 PM »
Came out of the gym just now to find that my bike had moved.....  :eek

On closer inspection, I found that it had been knocked over and then stood back up again.

Initial damage report: Smashed L/H mirror housing, mirror, indicator bulb socket, scuffed tip-over wing, scuffed pannier, scuffed bar end.  I may find more later.

At least the guy had the decency to leave his number, just spoke to him and he seems decent - he's gonna get his insurance details to me tomorrow.  It seems someone else stood the bike up while the guy that hit it was looking for me in the shops.

Let's see how this plays out.  Can't say I'm happy about it, but accidents happen and if it gets sorted out then all will be well again.

Yeah that's what I thought, I was pretty annoyed until I found the note tucked in to the screen.

That sucks
Now just to start things off, I'll say under insurance $1200 for the repairs???

Damn, that's unlucky damage, from my experience  :|||| the ST seems to come off well when tipped over.

It is fantastic he left a note. I had a drunk woman drive into the back of my parked car outside my house, the only reason she left a note was because she was still in the car hollering drunkedly at the police when they arrived. The note was there the next morning. She was driving a rental, whose insurance didn't cover her because she was intoxicated. She was therefore up for the total damage to my car, the rental car, and the boat trailer she managed to finesse into my boot. I had to chase her personally for the money.  :cuss

Hope it ends up well for you Des.

Cheers, Shaun

I'm gonna try to get to the Honda dealer and see how much they want to fix it, parts and labour.  I'll probably need these for when I talk to the insurance company.

Sounds like that was a nightmare!  That situation just isn't right.

I'm sure it'll be fine - worst case, I'll just replace the mirror/indicator and live with the rest.  (Although I bet those parts aren't cheap..!!)

After my recent 'kiss of the tar' I have been to the local Honda dealer and bought the mirror unit complete $119.50, indicator $54.20, tip-over bar cover in 'Gusto grey' for $27.60 and maintence cover in 'Lapis Blue Metalic' (1994 model) for $108.10. These are on par with what I could find overseas, but without the hassel of postage, and on my door in a couple of days of ordering. The right parts and colours too.  :blu13

Well it took a little while, but the bike got sorted today.  I got the local Honda dealer to submit a quote to the insurer, all went quiet until I got a call from the dealer saying they have had the approval to do the repair and had ordered the parts.

Not exactly how I would have liked it to come out but I'm not complaining, my bike is fixed and I can't really ask for more.

So a happy ending then :thumbsup

Yeah I'm grateful that he did the right thing.  My insurance were not involved, I only have 3rd party damage cover anyway.  His insurance has covered it, they are dealing direct with the Honda dealer by the look of it so I am pretty much uninvolved, which is nice.  I just turned up, they fitted the parts, and then I left.
