Oh no! Not another fuel consumption thread.
Took the new (to me) 2005 Honda for a 450km round trip over the weekend. A bit of urban driving, onto to the Princes Freeway, around 100km/h, perhaps a bit more
(in the 100 zone), then 110km/h
(in the 110 zone), turned off at Morwell and headed for Jack River (around 15km out of Yarram).
Overnight with friends and returned pretty much the reverse route. The little Honda returned just under 6.5 litres per 100km. Pretty happy with that.
The Honda is a 1700cc, 5 speed manual, four door Civic. Yeah, pretty happy with that.
Why would I buy a nearly 14 year old car? Well, a bit of a brain fade a few weeks ago. I have been looking at options to replace the little bit older RAV4 with 214,000km on the clock, and something that would handle a 1,500 to 1,600kg caravan (perhaps a little heavier). Thought I better find out what the RAV4 was worth, so put an ad in CarSales. That taken care of, and with a cheekily high price (to give a bit of bargaining room), I field 'phone calls and emails.
A guy and his wife come and have a look, I take 'em for a ride around the local streets for 30 minutes. I'm waiting for the guy to say he wants to negotiate. I had organised a RWC, tester had told me nothing needed doing (the RAV had been looked after), so I'm starting to think that I don't really want to sell the RAV, and then was prepared to tell him my $6,500 asking price was not negotiable.
Well, he takes the wind out of my sails by saying $6,500 is okay, $$ and paper work change hands and I say goodbye to the RAV.
Damn! Hell!! Poop!!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, what have I done. Well I tell yuse all.
1. Left my Hank B Marvin & the Shadows CD in the CD player (along with four others, but I can't recall the artists or titles so they must not be too memorable).
2. This brain fade left me without my own car.
Solution was to scan the CarSales, sort by manual, km travelled, electric windows & mirrors, air conditioner and EFI, but missed out on cruise and remote radio buttons, but I did get a little runabout with only 91K and still have a couple thou left over to put towards another motorcycle.
Oh yeah, and it's a Honda.
