I come off a dairy farm in Victoria where we had to go out in all sorts of weather during winter.  Canberra is mild by comparison, and all those coastal dwelling Queenslandeers don't know much about cold..I have camped out at Esk when it was -15c overnight.

Yep cold is what it is even when riding in NZ in Nelson (S.I.) in the middle of winter and if you do not tense up against it you do not feel it so much ...unless you got baaaaad knees... about to take 3rd painkiller for the day and they are meant to be 1 every 12 hrs

All is good for tomorrow peeps tables already set up.... Tis lookin sweeet

Saaz, I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate. The lowest recorded temperature for Esk was -0.2 degrees C on 31st May 2006, and the lowest recorded temperature for anywhere in Queensland was recorded at Stanthorpe on the 4th of July 1895, when it was -11 degrees C.

Sorry mate, this is Queensland, it's not been -15 since the last ice age...and you are NOT that old!!

Goodonya for researching it.  You beat me by half an hour!  I knew it had BS written all over it.  Looks like we're going to have to watch old saaz now he's retired- thinks he can get away with any old cobblers.     :well

Thanks for the pointer Diesel.  Got me all sentimental about my distant youth.

The recorded temperature must not have been taken at where I was camping (camping ground in Esk, in the shadow of the mountain which made it worse).  Belstaff jackets were frozen solid, bikes would not start using starter motors as too cold. The lowest temp mentioned is for Gatton, not Esk, but I don't know what difference there might be.  What made it worse that the weather was nice and warm in brisbane and mapleton just before that.

Anyway, I think it was probably -20c now that my memory has been refreshed...perhaps -25c ..perhaps..

Well here's a first pass ride report.
After what felt like 9,000 sets of traffic lights we arrived at Tipsy's house to be greeted by the man himself, his brother and two sons...and the most fantastic feast I have seen a many a long year. It would be a downright insult to call it a BBQ, Roast Pork, Roast Lamb, veggies, dressings and heaven knows what else. Others took pics of the repast, not me, I was too busy stuffing my face!!!

Tipsy, you should become a chef!!

Anyway, Harieg seems to be beating himself up because of the sheer number of traffic lights we had to get through to get from the middle of Brissy to Victoria Point. Mate, don't, they are a factor of urban life in cities that we simply have to deal with...we all got some valuable practice in slow-speed driving!.

Here's a few pics, and I know Diesel took others.

The view outside Tipsy's house, with the famous Gold One on the end, still with NSW plates!!

Another.

...and why shouldn't we park on the grass???

Tony, Shiney and Tipsy swigging a well-deserved beer

The Chef himself

Diesel holding court with Tipsy's brother and two sons.

HarieG, YoungOne (Tony) and Mrs Shiney with Tipsy at the grill.

When we left we all headed for the Pacific Highway and once there split up to head home by our own routes. A great afternoon was had by all, it was hot and sunny with not a cloud in the sky, and everyone (I think) enjoyed themselves very much. My personal thanks to Tipsy and his family for making us welcome and putting on such a terrific spread, mate you certainly have a calling there!.

Cheers all

-4c is just normal here, just had a few -2c days all the last week.  Seems like we are getting a record of more than 8 days below zero in a row.  -6c is not chilly, just quite normal...now below that seems a bit cold even to me....

YOU were talking about Esk or Gatton,
not Canberra
the last time those temps were recorded here in Qld, your relatives were wearing animal skins for cloths and modesty

A point of order has been called by harieg, and upon investigation, I find the point proven. Back on track, or the stick will be wielded and the sin bin could get crowded.

following the BAD comments about the NSW rego on GoldieST,
for the Tripsy to Tipsy, I would like to offer the following STORY

last week i rolled up to the QMT to transfer the rego
ALL paper work completed satisfactorily, it wont be long now, and she will be sporting a Qld. plate  ahhh

WRONG
the bike is registered in NSW till October, was rego'ed for 12 months
BUT, whats this, it is on the NSW reparable write off list ?????

(( for those of you with a bit of spare time)) {{ like an hour or 2 or 3,
go to their WWW and read the HORROR story,}}
AND the rego cant go through in Qld., UNLESS nsw OK's it.

come back next week I am told, while Qld. contacts NSW  !!!
Mon. 21st. get a phone call, bring the bike in for an inspection !
NO it has had an inspection already
NO that one doesn't count, we need to see it !
so today presented myself to the counter member
checked the vin, checked the single seat label, checked for oil leaks, reassured himself no pillion pegs, cant remove the cowl in a hurry
OK HarieG
lets go back inside
25 minutes later and $363:80 .  12 months single seat rego COMPLETED
plate IS on the bike, label due in  5 to 10 days

What a hassle to get put into your name.

Don't get the problem if it was all ready registered in NSW. Must have been approved to be registered

Mine come from Victoria. previous owner gave me signed transfer papers.
I took to local SA Rego Office with the completed SA paperwork who then made the appoinment for inspection. A Check of VIN numbers and the approval number on the VIN plate. Take that paperwork back to rego office, pay all the fees, collect plate and label (printed). Fill in paper work for return of plate to Vic and refund the balance of Vic rego to me. Total proces from picking bike up in Vic and into SA rego was about 10days and no phone calls interstate as details on Vic rego papers matched the bike details.

Yeah ditto Alan. I picked up my previous bike from "Blues" territory and was just a matter of getting a Qld roadworthy, even though it was currently registered in NSW, and off to the Qld Transport Dept. No worries at all. A few years back mind you. Had the STeed for almost 5 years now. The repairable write-off thing is the only snag I can see there Harie.
Getting wind in my hair while I still have some.
