"Has anything like this happened to you or your mates?
« on: May 09, 2012, 11:41:46 AM »
When I purchased my second hand ST1300 it had what I considered severe throttle snatch, was informed by the dealer that everything was just normal. Anyway last Friday I decided to install a K&N Air Filter and when I removed the old filter I found that some mud wasps had made a nest in the air intake box all but blocking the air intake. After removing the nest and installing the K&N I no longer have any throttle snatch and the engine now idles so smoothly that I can do "u" turns at idle speed. So much for a 12,000km complete service that I was promised before delivery by the dealer. See attached photo.

Glad your bike is now performing like it should. Hope you kept the nest so you can deposit it in the dealers office. I can't see your photo?

For some reason the ST13 seems prone to animals living in the airbox. Mice etc are not uncommon. Honda must have put in a lrger intake compared to the ST11, which has a small air intake.

Hi All, Further to my post on the above, I approached the Service Manager last Wednesday and after comments like "We can't check everything before we sell a bike as it would add hundreds of dollars to the price" I said that the situation was still not good enough and he said "what do you want" So I asked for a substantial discount off a pair of Dry-Rider pants to match my jacket and I was able to get $57.00 of the price. Fail outcome I feel.
Also rode Lion's Road last Saturday for the second time since removing the Wasp Nest and the ST performed beautifully with no throttle snatch on the rough road especially on the corners.

Not pretty!  Just needs a matchbox or 20¢ piece in the pic for scale, but serious at any size.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
