VIC Routes
« on: March 24, 2022, 10:26:05 PM »
Better get this outta the RTE thread and into its own .....

Bugger. Depending on how i'm going time wise i may have to go via Mitta Mitta or just start heading westwards after Corryong. Omeo is basically booked out accommodation wise due to NSW & VIC school holidays which start a week later than Qld.

I'd imagine it will be a similar story in other regional holiday areas. I'll have to play it by ear i guess.

I was going to stop by Mr Banks at Seaford this time around if i ended up going via Melbourne.

I'd be riding Corryong to Omeo to Bairnsdale via this route, it takes in the Omeo Highway and southern section of Great Alpine Way, both roads must've been designed by a motorcyclist.

Bairnsdale a big town, plenty of motels and a few hotels remaining.  It's not a holiday destination, but a stop-over for those heading to or from Eden, Merimbula, etc.. We've never had a problem with accommodation.  Short of Bairnsdale is Bruthen with good accommodation (call ahead) and the Bullant Brewery.  Their beers and ales give me a headache - nothing to do with quality, may be the quantity.  A tasting paddle of schooners is usually a good start.

That route looks like a winner.

I was more concerned about getting a bed in the smaller locations if i ended up there.
Overnight stops will be determined on my progress on day 1 and 2.

Add the first leg from Bega to Corryong and it's a 9 hr day optimally before rest, food and photo ops. May look at heading back through the area after lunch in SA.

What, you riding a push bike?  Google Maps tells me more like 4:25 hour ride, and from my experience if you can't ride that under 4 hours (legal speeds), you ain't trying and you probably should cancel your OzSTOC membership.

Add the first leg Bega to Corryong ONTO the second leg Corryong to Bairnsdale  and you get the 9 hours plus and 660 odd km.

And let, us know what the return route is, a catch-up would be good.  And if you need it. I'm sure there'll be bed in the suburbs, somewhere.
