2024-06-15 Lameroo Ride To Eat
« on: June 16, 2024, 05:45:06 AM »
With rain forecast for the morning the day's selfie came from within my bike's (relatively newly renovated) bike shed before hitting the road.

First stop was at the Adelaide GPO to check my GPO Box.

Along the way I stopped at two venues we have done RTEs before - The Stanley Bridge Hotel at Verdun and the Palmer Hotel in Palmer.

Sandwiched between those was just the one stop at Tungkillo where I spotted a new sculpture.  I'll have to go back when the weather is better.  Despite the forecast rain I really didn't cop any for the whole day - just mist and fog.

The wing's crossings of Murray River ferries went up by one as I took the Purnong Ferry from Caurnamont to Purnong.  It's done them all south of Purnong now.  It'll never do all the ferries the Kwaka has.  I can't see me ever taking the wing across the Pieman River.

Without going on dirt this is about the only thing you can see in Perponda.

In Japan you can get just about anything from a vending machine but in Karoonda I did a double take for a pizza vending machine.  I actually rode around the block to get a second look and confirm my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.  I've never seen a pizza vending machine in Japan so to see one in the bush of a country that's not big on vending machines was quite surprised.

I once played the Marama Hall in the "where is thread?" many years ago.  I've passed it a few times but this is the first time on the wing.  At Balranald West Aussie Glen showed me his fog lights outer light flashing amber when the indicator was turned on and I assumed he bought a farkle for that.  I thought it was pretty cool, but it turns out mine does that too.  I actually discovered that on the way to last weekend RTE in Victoria when I hit a bird in Underbool and pulled over to assess the damage (there was none).

This was the first time I spotted the Smithville Hall.  I wondered if Smithville was a former town that is in modern day Lameroo's borders like Kulkami, Mulpata, Whirha, Gurrai and Wilkiwatt but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I spotted the new silo at at Lameroo on the day home from Balranald last month, but knowing this month's RTE was here and that day being foggy postponed getting a photo until yesterday.

Dragonstaff was the next to arrive and I got the chance to complete my Ozstoc courier service duty by giving him his National Rally mug.

I stayed a night and drank a pint of Guinnes at this very pub enroute to said National Rally in march which is why I suggested it for this RTE when suggestions for a new venue had been requested.  Yesterday was my my first meal here and I had two pints this time.

It's been a while since the ST was the majority bike at a South Australian RTE.  Come to think of it, there was only one at Victoria's last week being outnumbered by Goldwings.

GPS tracking for ride too and from Lameroo.  These are from Greenalp.  I've been meaning to ask if Stinky Pete got his phone GPS tracking sorted but forgot again.

I had GPS logger running as well.  It's stats page tells me I did 443 kilometres for the day.  The date says 2024-02-15 but that was probably be mistyping it when I saved the file upon shutting it down at my local servo.

It was a good turnout of bikes considering the forecast:
2 x ST1300
1 x ST1100
1x ST1800
1x Himalayan

Stinky Pete took the warm, comfort option

I was telling a mate about the pizza vending machine today, and apparently there is one outside the Coliseum in Rome.

I was surprised that Jedz in Murray Bridge was the supplier!

One of 6 pizza places - Muzza Bizza loves their fast food. 😂

Pizza vending machines were launched at Southern Cross Station (here in Melbourne) in August 2023.

Apparently, they're pretty good.

I might have been tempted by curiosity if I wasn't already on the way to a feed.
