Qld Registration fee decrease :
From 16 September 2024, registration fees for light vehicles, including trailers will be decreased by 20 per cent for one year to ease cost-of-living pressures for Queenslanders. The reduced amounts will start appearing on vehicle registration notices from 5 August 2024.
The reduction will apply to the registration fee and the traffic improvement fee (TIF) and will apply in addition to existing registration concessions. The fee decrease will not apply to Compulsory Third-Party (CTP) insurance premiums. This charge is separately managed by the Motor Accident Insurance Commission.
Don’t worry if you have just paid your registration, the discount will be in place for 12 months. Your discount will apply to your next renewal payment from 16 September.
The reduction will see a 12-month registration bill for a private use four-cylinder vehicle reduce by almost $85, bringing registration fees down to $338.75, excluding CTP insurance premiums.
The previously announced registration freeze for light vehicles will still be implemented from 1 July 2024. Usually, registration fees increase each year due to indexation. The freeze means that registration fees for light vehicles will not increase on 1 July 2024 as they normally would.
