Kimmie 1 v Emu 0
« on: September 28, 2024, 02:20:55 PM »
Hi Everyone,

As per the title, I've had an incident with an emu on the Tipping Way to Cobar 20.09.24 for the IBA Memorial Ride.

Was fortunate that folk were heading south, saw the whole thing & stopped to assist....the man Marlon was an off duty paramedic- yes very lucky & called all the right people.

The Lake Cargellico emergency services & ambulance had me heli-vact to Liverpool ED Trauma.

In a little busted up but doing ok all things considered.
Fractured both pelvis
Right arm/hand - Broken radius which has  plate & screws now, broken ulnar & broken pinky which is now in an extended cast.
Broken left thumb tip in splint.
May need more surgery on hand know more next week.
Ruptured tumor on liver had surgery but need more on this. Gut teams & trauma are working on that plan will know next week.
Lots of bruising everywhere, cuts & abrasions. Think that covers it.

All my gear & Dudley (RIP) did what they were meant to do to keep me alive.

I'll be in Liverpool hospital for a bit Ward 5E Bed 13 & visitors ARE MOST WELCOME!

Thank you to everyone that has already been in touch & all the messages & heart felt wishes that have been passed on from an AMAZING community I am fortunate to be a part of.

I Love you all, Kimmie. 0415 529 784

Thanks so much for sharing Kimmie.
I KNOW you are very well loved and respected across the motorcycling fraternity, and I'm quite certain we all wish you all the best with a speedy recovery. It has been a trying time for OzSTOC Members lately and we are soooo glad you are here to tell the tale.
It may have been a little blessing with the tumour thing.
Either way,  get well soon,  and all the best wishes for yourself and Karl at this time.
Hope to see you back out there asap. Xo
Cheers, Diesel

Wow! I had no idea. I was at the Memorial and this news has only just filtered through to the IBA fraternity. Kimmie was supposed to be at the Friday night dinner having made the table booking.  Trusting for a good recovery from all that damage.  As noted, the bike is a write-off, and almost the rider too, by the sound of all those injuries.  The immediate arrival of the paramedic was a God-send, being able to stabilise Kimmie who otherwise would have been much worse off.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

It was very important to me that word came from me...call it part of the road to recovery.

Thank you everyone. My heart just bursts with the outpouring of love & support from everyone.

I will keep you updated as things progress albiet it might be at a slower pace than I'm used too.

I can understand this.  I know when I had my off in 2012 I got the hospital to contact work to let them know I wouldn't be coming in but told them not to contact my wife.  If the news came from me she at least knew I was conscious.

Good to hear you're okay and hope the road to recovery is smooth.  I'm guessing Dudley is the emu and it didn't fare so well.

It sounds like horrible luck with the accident, but also amazing luck that the off duty paramedic was driving past at the time.
You appear to have a positive attitude and that will be a major help throughout your recovery.
I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery.

Hi Kimmie,

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate meeting with the emu.

I had similar but much lower count of injuries in my meeting with the side of a 4WD ute (21 Sep 2015), and I know you've got some hard work in front of you.

Take the pain relief as required/prescribed, and don't wait for the pain to get too strong, as it takes more pain relief to bring it back under control.

Listen to the Physios, do the exercises, and don't push too hard.

Wishing you the eaiest and speediest of recoveries.

P.S. Next year, be prepared to watch TV shows and movies you think you've haven't watched before, only to find scenes you recognise, then you find out you watched it whilst on pain-killers and faded in and out whilst doing so.

Hi Everyone,
Just a little update.  The liver surgery went well but the side effects are a killer. Indigestion like I ate 10 hamburger in 2 min, very painful & potential pancreatitis. Hand surgeon visit didn't happen due to pain levels. Temp spiked not sure why, they are trying to figure it out. Looking forward to actually having a real shower...the simple things.
So all in all I think I'm doing ok.
Thanks again to you all for caring about me, I have no idea how to repay you all.
Love Kimmie xxx

Things have turned south.  I've had another set back, they had to put in another emergency drain. Unfortunately in recovery I went into septic shock, so in a whole other world of discomfort.  I'll get there though eventually. Back in ICU 3 BED 55. No visitors 2day Thurs 3rd Oct pls I'm exhausted

Hi Everyone,
Had another hiccup. Wed 02.10.24 required more emergency surgery to drain the liver, in recovery went into septic shock & had more lines, probs, drains & monitors connected to me than Frankenstein. Spent more time back in ICU, told them I missed them...lol.

Back on a ward now 5E BED 19, still running a fever & they are pumping me with antibiotics.

There are a few people (Bill, Martin, Bec, Robyn & Tina) that are coming to visit which have been arranged & those plans are still fine & my sister but can I ask that everyone else hold off pls. It's not that I don't want to see everyone just that it's taxing & I need rest & recover.

My ward looks like a flower shop compared to everyone elses...lol and they are all beautiful. The practical part of me says, send cards to home so Karl can bring them to me when I get moved closer to home & I can read them all & laugh & cry at the same time.
Home 100 Hanson St, Corryong VIC 3707.

So it been an action packed few days.

I know you are all thinking, sending well wishes & praying for me & every single one is appreciated more than you know.

Have a great day all
Love Kimmie xxx

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋

In the hospital lab of Kimmie, we finally found the cause of the temp spikes...I have a lung infection. So on Friday night 04.10.24 at midnight I was placed into isolation.

They are still pumping me with antibiotics and monitoring my temp.  It's pretty yukky & I don't wish this on anyone.

Hoping to get some physio 2day cos I need to feel the floor under my feet.
Don't think I'm going anywhere in the near future.

In 5E BED 28 now.  Pls check with me 1st if you want to visit full PPE must be adhered to.

I keep being me and definitely fighting the fight.
Thanks again for all your thoughts & well wishes,  I'm positive they are big part of me getting better.
Love Kimmie 🥰 ❤️ 😍
