Timing belt change
« on: March 22, 2025, 12:56:05 PM »
Currently have 2 ST1100’s both reaching the 100k mark. It’s been on my mind for a while to have the timing belts changed. After getting knocked back by my local bike shops because they don’t want to work on bikes over 10 yrs old I decided to try and do it myself. After many hours on YouTube and reading the workshop Manuel I gave it a go. A day and a half later and new belt fitted along with new spark plugs and an oil change. Took bike for a test ride this morning and runs great. Most time consuming part was getting to the belt and putting bike back together. Belt was a bit tight to put on but made sure everything lined up. Hopefully get a lot more enjoyment out of the old girl now.

That is the best way. Get the right tools (including JIS screwdrivers rather than Phillips head) and learn to do it yourself. It is cheaper, done when you want it done, and you get the satisfaction of "I did that".

THERE ARE OLD RIDERS, AND THERE ARE BOLD RIDERS, BUT THERE ARE DAMN FEW OLD AND BOLD RIDERS.

Keep the dirty side down.
