trike my bike

Winston 66 northampton    :rd13 :hatwave

Hello evertbody, Well for those that know me you will remember that I also have a 1996 Yamaha XVZ 1300 Royal Star. As well as the fabalous ST. 1300
Now I am getting a little older and possibly a little slower, I am seriously thinking of getting , (making) a trike out of the Royal Star,
What I am asking is for some feedback about this sort of thing. As I know nothing , but I love to make stuff,
I am considering something like the wedgetal type of  attachment so I need some opinions please.
All input will be greatfully recieved and hopefully someone has already gone down this path and I will not have to try and reinvent the wheel.
It would be great if I could obtain some construction details from other peoples projects and any other jems of wisdom from you great bunch of people.
any and all ideas and opinions are needed.

Hear is hoping to hear some comments.
Cheers to all

 Thanks Brock,
I guess that I am getting a little bored,
Since finishing the trailer build in May, and then getting that bad run with the winter lurgies and having to cancell my planned trip to up and over the top via Darwin,
I am now feeling so comfortable at home for the balance of the winter I just dont feel like going anywhere for the immediate future. so this is a very likely project which hopefully will keep me out of mischief for a couple of months or so.

 Cheers to all

Hi Winston, thought about a Wedgetail kit for when I start to get on a bit and had a good look at one fitted to a Kawasaki Cruiser.  :think1
Looked like a quality product and the woman that owned it was very happy with it. She had been injured in a bike accident and could'nt ride a solo anymore. The big advantage in my eyes is that the kit can easily be removed and replaced.  :thumb
I think the cost would be a lot less than a full trike conversion and certainly a lot less hassle by way of rego approval.  :||||
Try this site for more info and the picture gallery has some picts of the conversion on Yamaha XVZ 1300 Royal Stars

Thanks for the link Mitch, That was interesting reading.
Unfortunatley for me their pricing makes that particular product totally out of my reach, There is no way that I could afford that item even though it is exactly what i would love to have, and as you said the build quality looks superb.
I guess that I will have to fall back on to my own resoursefulness and endevour to garner enough ideas and input so that I can do the old home build thing again.
All I can say is thank goodness for the shed full of tools and stuff and I guess that I am lucky that one of my boys that still lives at home with me is very good with his hands and mechanical things , and he has expressed some interest in this idea and he says that he would enjoy the challange of assisting me with the build.
 That is lucky lucky me.
Cheers toi all.

Winston 66

Hi everybody,
Thanks Hobbs for the link that is very interesting, I had not heard of those Ghost Wheels etc.
I will be following that up.
So far I have some good feedback from fellow riders and so far I have found one advertiser on E Bay that sells what looks like a very good guide and instructions. A cd  $35-00  for a home built two wheeled adaptor with indapendant suspension, which looks to be just the sort of thing that I think that I want.
He says that a  all in construction price af $1500-00 is the go (that is of course in America), and I think there  Will probably be at least another $500-00 here in Aus because of the freight of the specalised bits  etc that will not be possible to source here in Aus. And no doubt parts costs here will be more than in the good old USA.
Thanks again everyone ,
Please keep the info. comming.
Cheers to all.

 Latest update.
Well the CD. that I mentioned arrived last week and it made very interesting viewing.
It certainly gave me lots to think about and it was full of ideas.
So far I have decided to go away from the rubber buffered torsion type of suspension. (it is hard to get here in OZ and quite expensive to import a suitable set from the USA,)  Around $450.00
I have decided to go for an air over spring adjustable type of shock (one pair of)  250 KG maximum rating. These will allow a full range of load variation adjustments (air), and then a variable spring rate adjustment.  These are from aliexpress china and the delivered price here is $129.00 for the pair.
I think that is a good deal They look great, stainless steel and alli, and anodised Gold and black.
Unfortunatly they will have to be mounted verticaly through the deck which means that I will loose some of the deck space width for storage but I can cope with that.
As I come up with other ideas I wii be letting you all know.
Cheers
