What about some phone apps
« on: July 18, 2012, 12:22:46 PM »
Now my son gave me an Apple Iphone????
So I had a play and found me an App that is most useful when out and about on the bike. Now when doing the distance I always have on me a SPOT Tracker so people know where I am but this bit of gear sends a photo as well with just a push of the button. When you send it as an Email heres what they get
Its called "Photorino"

Bad luck on the iPhone (my experience :-)  LOL

A few apps:

* SitOrSquat:  For when nature calls *
* Urbanspoon : Find food
* FuelFinda : for when you are low
* Pkt Weather : Has BOM radar, for rainy days.
* and of course a link on my homescreen to OzStoc.com

I like the app you use for the photos and locations.  I tend to simply use the Facebook app, does a similar thing.

For long trips I have a bluetooth system in my Lid for some tunes.  All songs stored on my phone.

Look forward to seeing what else is suggested here.

** EDIT: SitOrSquat is for my pillion.  She doesn't like the roadside :-)  LOL

I use some helpful Apps:

NAVIGON: a Garmin based GPS app that i use in the car and on the bike when i am in need to finding specifics.

TUNEIN RADIO: this app lets you tune into radio stations as long as you have phone signal, it uses data, but i get to listen to all my rugby and cricket regardless where i am :)

GOOGLE MAPS: already on the Iphone, and priceless for finding things

BP LOCATOR: excellent app for finding fuel stations

"Fuel Economy Calculator" for the anally retentive amongst us who like numbers.
"Snarl Traffic" for finding out where the holdups are.
"PWAU Lite" which gives weather forecasts for where ever you want in Aus for today and the next 3 days.

Snarl traffic although available for android, is no good for the west of Oz, only for Qld, NSW and Vic.
PWAU Lite not available for Android, and neither is Fuel Economy Calculator

But Brock, Terry said his son had given him an iPhone, so we are mentioning iPhone apps, not Android ones.

OK, but I think the point of this was for people to tell Terry what apps they recommended for his new iPhone.

Another good (and free :thumb) BOM radar is:                       Oz Radar Lite
And another good GPS (recommended by Couch :-++) is:     Metroview (around $15)

I see a few have mentioned GPS Apps. Tried to use them on a bike but for me it was hopeless. Brought the real deal (Garmin Zumo) and have never looked back. Had a Navman I used in the car but 5 minutes on the bike, 1 minute of a brief shower and in the bin it went

Lol that's why we have a screen  :thumb just joking terry, the way I have my dash set up with the screen unless it is teaming down next to no water gets in now.

The phone GPS apps work well, but I have to be honest the are still not a proper GPS in my mind.

This is one of the reasons I like bikes, look at the diverse range of thoughts and ideas on one little subject  :runyay

"So True" But everything I have on the bike I have to use with gloves on and must talk/work with everything else I have on the bike.
If it dosn't turn on when I push the button to start the bike, it has to turn on with one push of a button and work or it goes in the bin. My GPS hasn't been off the bike except to work in the car for maybe 3 years and now I have a car one it will never come off. It has a seperate locking system.

Sighs dream job..... :beer

Mate you are spot on, most stuff that works is dear.
"But"in my case when I look at all the junk thats ended up in the bin the dear stuff becomes cheap. Since making Ebay my friend I buy near everything off that and most of the time near always it turns out at least half the price of getting whatever in a shop.
I mean a Shueberth helmet for $100 brand new, never been worn. Their close on a $1000 new so with the savings I could get a Bike specific GPS, Bike inetrcom, a bike radio and some do da's for charging stuff and a Cig plug. And all of it good stuff. Took me 6 months to save for my GPS but I've had it for 3 years without a complaint.
If I'd have brought the helmet from a shop I'd only have the helmet

Guys,
I've just found this iPhone/iPad app called "Honda Assistant" which is basically an Illustrated Parts Breakdown for Honda bikes. The first thing it asks is for you to enter your bike year and model, then it goes and downloads all the manuals, parts lists and diagrams etc. Looks really good at first glance. I think it was $0.99, which is a really good price, eh??
Cheers,
Paul
