Personaly,
I wouldnt use them. If you must break into a wire to join others to it, then I prefer to use crimps, and maybe heat shrink over the top to water proof.

I dont like soldering either, as it can cause fracturing at the wire solder join. Also its hard to hold wire, solder and a red hot stick in two hands, especially as its usually in a very awkward position.

Neat idea.  Like Brock says I prefer to crimp, however I can see a use for these on other applications (trailer, caravan etc).

I don't really get into this a lot but my few my attempts at crimping have usually fail and I have to use two or three connectors to get it right.
When I upgraded the trailer lights to LED I soldered them and so for it's a success.  :think1 the wires are still joined at least.......

One of my model railway friends did the trailer plug (soldered and heat shrink) connection on the bike for me and it must have seemed rather gigantic stuff to work on after installing sound chips etc into model steam and diesel engines.

Allan

Crimping is easy if you use decent crimps and crimping tools.

Do not use this type http://img-asia.electrocomponents.com/images/R120531-01.jpg

use this one (available from jaycar http://www.jaycar.com.au/products_uploaded/product_3730.jpg

its a bit more expensive  but much better.

I just twist the wires together and then put the heat shrink tube over it. Never had one fail, but have had a zillion crimps fail??????????????

I have seen  Posi-lock joiners in use and the people who used them swear by them, they are quick easy and just about fool-proof, I'd use them. Crimping is easy, I agree, but only if you have the right tools, enough space in which to use them correctly and the know-how to make good crimps first time, cause they aren't reuseable, and if they aren't 100% right then they will fall apart just when you need them to work.
Cheers,

I am one of those that would swear by them.  There are lots of them on my bike and none have failed (touch wood).  Not sure there is a dealer in Aus anymore, I picked mine up from NZ

For those of us who have never seen them, how do they work?
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
