ST1100 Dash Shelf
« on: October 20, 2011, 09:01:24 PM »
I have on order a dash shelf for my 1100 from cal sport touring in the US however I have been waiting almost two months for this as they have had to get more made by their supplier. They haven't seemed overly sure about when the new stock will arrive each time I have called to enquire. I am keen to get a shelf sorted within the next couple weeks so I can mount my new gps unit. Does anyone have the measurements required to make one or even more likely to give to a fabricator to get one made? I am sure I could figure it out however I think I might try to get this info  from those who may have done this before. Cheers  :)

Yep 'tis a goodly one. I have one myself, bought a few years ago from same people.

:well If I ever get my bike back from the workshop ( 3 weeks so far to get a replacement for a faulty tyre! :o||| ), I will take it off and measure  it up for you.

Thanks for the offer Ray but I have managed to create a template that I gave to a plastic fabricator yesterday. Will have a shelf made from ABS plastic next week. Really happy with the template. Hope the final product  turns out as I imagine. Wouldn't you know it though. I received an email this morning to say that my dash shelf on order has been posted. Might have an extra shelf for sale but will see how it turns out.

Dash Shelf complete. 2 actually. One made from 4.5mm ABS and the other from 3mm. I attached the thicker one to my bike and after around 1200K's of riding am reasonably happy. Will have to make the minor mod of attaching a stabiliser bar to the bottom as it did shake a little. Ram mount for aqua box also added. Still waiting on the cal sport touring model to arrive... See the GPS thread for pics of the shelf fitted...

Good Evening All,

I noticed the other weekend Tipsy had a very nice Dash Shelf on his ST1100 that he made himself, and i wanted to move my RAM mount off my handle bars so after some battering he made me one, and brought it up today, and he gave me a hand to fit it,. it took all about 15 minutes to put it on.

I am going to get some black nuts and bolts and another RAM mount for the GPS, but i think it looks fantastic!

Took the bike out this afternoon, with Ram mount on shelf, sat very well no movement, rock solid, so cant give it a big enough tick   :thumb

Ok Guys and Gals
I will set something up with Streak to make them Available  thru our shop but not until after our big meet, and I will have to look at getting a small band saw as cutting with angle grinder requires lots of extra filing and such
with Mr Rhitus starting to have a large impact on the hands one has a tendency to look for easier ways to do things.
Or supply card board pattern to those who are capable of making there own,, it is not difficult.

Doesn't look too hard to do. I might just have a go myself, easy enough to measure the dimensions and I already have a sheet of 4mm aluminium in the shed. I also have a can of paint that is a close match to the grey plastic to finish it off with  :thumbs.   Ya gotta love fiddling around making stuff for bikes and modifying stuff... It's one of my favourite things..  :runyay

Thats how I got that one to that stage by trial and error and lots of fiddling I made the brackets and sat a piece of heavy cardboard on them and just kept modifying until final conception was arrived at.

So now the thingymybob fits to the hoozywatchit but does not interfere with the watchymacallit so every thing is hunkydory.

File doesn't seem to be there, but I think I saved it anyway.  Something else to occupy my time perhaps.
