Shark Evoline 3 Helmet
« on: August 21, 2012, 07:14:33 AM »
This weekend we weren't able to get out on the bike because we went down to Edinburgh instead to attend the International Military Tattoo celebrations and event.

The place was full of Australian visitors who were rewarded with a fantastic display put on in the arena in front of the Castle by members of the Australian military among others. They didn't let you down that's for sure. They were utterly fantastic and you should be very proud of them!

Anyway..... One of the highlights of using the bike now is that because of the crash in March I needed to get hold of a new helmet. My old one was an Evoline Series 2 and we had both been very happy with them. The wife still uses her older Series 2 and refuses to let me upgrade hers too.

My replacement helmet is the newer Series 3 and it performs way better than the old one. Quieter, smoother, better chin bar action and the bar can now be raised partway without having to lift the visor first. The difference in sound level due to road roar and wind rush really is marked.

The vents seem to work a bit better too as the old one did tend to mist up more easily than the Series 3.

The cutouts for intercom earpieces are slightly deeper and bigger so they can accommodate bigger cans than the old one did. The earpieces no longer punish the ears by digging into them.

On this model the earpieces are able to be slipped behind a couple of adhesive covers. They are nice and soft without stopping sound getting out of the cans and help comfort greatly.

I still had to change the cheek pads for less bulky ones as my beard is a bit thick and the jowels are a bit big. Luckily it seems the pads from the old helmet fit this one too so that saved about £30.

Quite often developments don't work out too well but Shark do seem to have genuinely made real improvements and I'd be happy to recommend the Evoline 3 though, it's always important to bear in mind that helmets are such an individual thing.... What works for one person may not work for someone else.

Anyway that's it. At least I've still got the old helmet so if the old visor will fit, I've got a spare.

The 3 sounds better. The lining on mine came adrift and buggered up the internal sun visor - the main reason I tool the Evoline on that trip was because of the sun visor. I will have to see if I can reattach the lining properly.

I will check the lining on mine tonight and let you know if it all comes off. To install my headset I only had to take the cheek pieces out and lift the lower section a bit to run cables. Not sure how or if it all ones out.

I just had a look at mine. The cheek pieces and upper head lining come out, which I did to install the autocom mic and ear pieces, but the bit that has come adrift in mine seems moulded in/glued in so I don't want to force it. The piece where the sun visor comes down blocks it moving, and the slider that is used to put it up and down has come out of the sun visor as well.

Standard Autocom.  The headsets don't require the part of the helmet that has come out of plce to be changed, even if it can be.

saaz,

How long have you had the helmet and did you register it with Shark?

The reason I ask is that I had the old, original Evoline (people call it the "Evoline 1" but it's like the first of anything, it's just the name with no figure behind it) Anyway.................... Shark give a 5 year guarantee. I've had mine for 2 years and the visors got 'sticky'. I couldn't raise them one-handed. I e-mailed the place I got it from, Action Motors in Parramatta, and promptly received stuff all, no reply, no acknowledgement, nothing. I even got an e-mail 'postmaster' advice that there was no such e-mail address................. strange seeing as that was the address I ordered them through (I got 2. One each for the wife and I).

I was riding through Victoria Park last Saturday when I spotted 'Helmet House' (didn't even know the place existed) so I called in to see if they could recommend/supply a suitable lubricant, for the visors you sick puppies.

The staff there told me to leave it there, they would lend me a helmet to get home (I didn't take them up on the offer but delivered it to them on Monday), and they would send it away for Shark to take a look at it.

I got a phone call today, Tuesday, advising me that the agent had been in, examined my helmet and authorised a replacement. Seeing as the 'Evoline 1' is no longer in production, they will be replacing it with an 'Evoline 3' ! Now that's what you call a guarantee :runyay

I suggest that you take yours into the nearest agent and see what they can do for you.

If anyone in the West is thinking about getting a helmet, I would urge them to give Helmet House their business (I am not associated with Helmet House in any way). The staff are only too willing to assist, even if you made your purchase with someone else. They have a huge selection, however I didn't look at prices as I was a bit 'shell-shocked' at their great service to a non-customer of theirs.

Right, I'm fed-up talking to you lot......................so I'm going home ........Oh, I am at home :think1 Good night.

I have an Evoline 3 from Helmet House, was in West Coast Honda a couple of days later, they have them and the price was the same.

I will try the guarantee path now, as I can't find anything obvious that I want to try and fix.  Fortunately I have:

Congratulations, the EVOLINE helmet number 000592 purchased on 15/11/2010, is guaranteed for 5 years from such date.

We appreciate the trust you have placed in us The Shark team.

I have already heard back from Action (through the ebay message system). Sending the helmet back so will let people know of the outcome, or whether it is a fixable problem.

Stripped the helmet lining last night and took all of it out except the brow rubber. Comes out easy and gives full access to the inner face of the shell.

The brow rubber is my basic problem, along with the slider activating the sunshield now being detached.
