Which Bike Cover
« on: September 05, 2012, 10:21:57 PM »
Not sure where to put this question....  A cover is hardly a TOOL, and is probably not a FARKLE, so I'll call it a GENERAL DISCUSSION.   I currently toss a couple of old sheets over the ST when it's idle in the shed, but would like something more fitting  ::)   Who makes a bike cover that will fit my ST1300, preferably with the top box attached?

The last line is the clincher.  All "big bike" covers are great on the ST1300, until you leave the top box on.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I've had 2 covers on my ST1300 (with top-box). The first was an RJays - quite heavy and lined with a fabric. I wanted to make sure it didn't "rub" the tank and take paint off and hence wanted the lining (which made it heavy/bulky). However, the good 'ole Perth sun baked it badly (even just early spring), so I wouldn't recommend that for SA either.

I then picked up a cover from the dealer that sold me the bike. This is a silver looking fabric impregnated with an metal-based paint I think (to give it better UV protection). Paintwork isn't a problem since the height of the top-box and the windscreen keep it from contacting the tank anyway. As it's not lined, it packs to about 1/3 of the space of the original RJays too.

I've just popped into the garage and checked it out. Unfortunately there's no brand name mentioned on it or the bag. I reckon if you ring Rockingham Powersports (08 9527 5093, ask for Jenny) they'd tell you what exactly it is so you could hopefully source it in SA.

To fit the ST with a top-box it's actually the XL size, which is big enough for a Goldie. It's a little too loose in high winds as it can flap about a little, but given there's an elastic cord and hook to hook it underneath it's not a problem.

I'm definitely happy with it.

I am using one of these for the ST1100, I have a top box and a couple of antenna hanging off the back and had a couple of holes put in to fit over them. size is the XL
It lives on the bike.  There are cheaper ones around that may do the job, but I like mine  :thumbs

Actually.... I think this is more to allow you to put the cover on the bike when it's hot. I believe some won't last long when making contact with a hot exhaust.

Honda do an OEM one that fits with stock screen and topbox on.

I got one then got rid of it after the V-stream screen and under mirror driving lamps meant it wouldn't fit anywhere right.

It's fleece lined and is really nice with a zip up the tail section.

I managed to "find" a gazebo cover. OK, for the likes of One Nut, the gazebo was broken and too expensive to repair.

Stinky,

I got the following. It covers my 1300, with the Top Box. Is light-weight, has insulation panels that cover the mufflers and straps underneath to secure it. Haven't had it very long so don't know how it will go in the sunlight but so far I'm very pleased with it.

Had a look at their site.  Pretty impressive range.  Will be interested to hear what the quality is like for that price.

Hi Guys,
I got mine from Aldi a few weeks ago and seems to be working a treat on the St1100. I got the biggest one and there's room enough for a 1300. Really happy with the $19 spent

Biggles

Just read the advert on the link you supplied. Here's a bit from it that has me wondering a bit.

Our cover is made of a MOISTURE RELEASE material with closeable air vents in which it repels most of the water, allows trapped moisture to evaporate and lets air circulate to your bike, preventing condensation. Other covers that do not have this characteristic or are completely waterproof hold in moisture and cause mold, mildew and rust which ruins your prized investment.

I'm not sure you need to let water in to allow moisture out!! it will be fighting it's self continually letting water in and moisture out. May as well leave it off then if your using the cover to keep your bike dry. OK for a dust and sun cover maybe./
