me first bike was an Excelsior AutoByk. Me thinks it was a 1950 model?? A great bit of gear, had pedals and everything. The Bike in the picture is pretty well the same Nick that mine was in. You get that when you spend your time chasing Triumphs and Vespas around the Pines.
Then I upgraded to a BSA Bantam :thumbsup

My first bike belonged to a nurse who was a friend of my girl-friend way back then. The bike a Honda CB 175 Twin (1969-73) was up for sale for about $500 so I bought it to use to and from work and it was also the bike I went for bike licence on.

Back in those days electric starts were a new thing but a lot of bikes still had a kick start as back up like this one has. Not sure what year mine was but the picture shows the model and colour.

A Honda CD175. Pre dates the CB as it had a pressed metal frame and single carb.  One of my sisters bought it new (it would have been a late 60s model), and it stayed in the family until I bought it off my older brother.  I rode it to Canberra from Victoria when I went to uni here in 1977. It may still be around here somewhere when I traded it in on the next bike.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CD175

It had a fully enclosed chain case, and 4 speeds which you needed if the head wind was too strong.  Interestingly it had a centrifical oil filter, which always seemed to have junk in it to clean out.

Very Nice alan.... Do you wish you had it now?

I haven't really given it that much thought.

Anyway I got hooked when I first saw an ST1100 and it took until 2006 before I could get one so I doubt if I'd want my first bike again.

Oh now that takes me back CB250G5 spent more time in bits than actually riding, cam chain tensioner used to fall to bits and the chain would come through the casing.  :( Happy days.  ::)

My first bike was a 1985 Honda Z50, dad bought it for me so I could push sheep down the lane ways they had mustered in for shearing and clutching

My first road bike was a 1999 Kawasaki Ninja, bought off a very nice policewoman who after I bought I off her booked me for having an incorrect license....

I remember the z50 , Streak, I always wanted one when I was a kid, but my mum said I was to never get a bike, she would be rolling in her grave if she knew how many I have had and crashes, I bought my kids a z50 when they started.

My first bike was a 1969 Yamaha AS1.  It was a 125cc two stroke road bike, which I purchased second hand in 1973 for $300.   Here's a photo of one.

I got out of I luckily, as I had been overseas, and my license had expired, when I had it renewed for some reason my bike license didn't, so I contested it and came out the other side.

Suzukli TS250L 1974 (new). Too big and fast to learn on so I promptly fell off and broke my nose and collar bone. Bought a Suzuki 125 (3rd hand) and went out in paddock and learnt to ride. Traded 250 on a Honda CB500/4, then a 750/4. Traded it in 77 on a new Yamaha XS750D.

Yamaha AS1  -  Sold when I found that it was no good for dating girls, and bought a car  :grin
BSA M21 - 1948 600cc single.  Restored and then sold when I was married, with mortgage and kids   :grin  :'(
Long Bikeless break -  Spent over 30 years dreaming of owning another bike   :'(  :'(
Yamaha XS650 - Restored and then sold 'cause I was never quite sure if I'd get home, as it had significant electrical issues  >:(
Yamaha XJR1300 - Great all rounder, really fast, broke the frame while in Cairns   :law  :eek
Honda ST1300  -  Bought while in Cairns after breaking the frame on the XJR1300.   Great tourer.   :thumbs

I got my first bike at the age of 13, it was a 1980 RM50 it had a 2 stroke motor, clutch, 5 gears and powerband. I taught myself to ride on this bike around the back yard and into the bushland around the property.
(I don't have pictures of the actual bikes but the following are the same models and colours)

I got my first road bike a year or two later, it was a 1982 z200

After that had a few other bikes…
1980 cb250  1984 gsx250
1990 cd250  2003 vt750
1990 ST1100 And now the 2004 ST1300

There were some other bikes that I can't remember at the moment, but they were all part of the fun of owning and riding motorbikes  :grin
