Well everyone who rides a bike knows this story well, it has not rained for a while, 20 points of rain, you go around a corner and you go bang crunch....

Well my wonderful partner Teela had the same experience today.....taking the kids to school, greasy corner, and below are the results (everyone is ok, couple of bruises and some big shocks):

a bit of driver inexperience, and a lucky tree, and it looks like i am in the market for a new car! would anyone like to buy a commodore, some panel damage

Cars and Bikes for that matter are replacable, costly

but replaceable.

Oh so easy to do with the distinct lack or rain we've had lately. The roads are like a skating rink, as Teela found out (the hard way). Glad everyone is OK, cars can be fixed or replaced, people...not so easy!

Like everyone else sentiments, glad everyone is OK.
When the dust settles, give us an assessment of your insurer and how they treated you.

Glad to hear you're all relatively okay and could walk away.
It's just a car and in time it probably would have been replaced anyway.

Bloody slippery roads,

so easy to send any vehicle into a slide (and often a sudden stop

)

I thought the nickname was "Crumpledoor". Appears they can crumple elsewhere.
Looks like a very sudden stop involved from a fair speed. Pleased to read they all fared well. :)

Besides all person/s being alright, these incidents or accidents (among other incidents/accidents) keep me employed. They, members of the public never cease to amaze me, even after 26 years of emergency response. I do look at this job's and think if this was happening in front of me what would I do?? It helps me to keep my spacial awareness when riding/driving. Cheers

We are insured with Suncorp, who have been excellent today, car straight to assessors, claim numbers sorted, only down sides where that we have to pay the excess up front, and because Teela is a P plater, the excess has basically doubled to $1,000, that was a bit of a shock, but still cheaper than a new car!

I'm a bit late on this one, but very glad to hear all is good. Any accident is stressful - add a couple of kiddies and it's a whole lot worse.

The good 'ole Falcon did it's job ... it's the reliable workhorse of the 4-wheeled set

. On the replacement front, it should be noted that the car impacted the tree very centrally.... so two ST1300s travelling side-by-side would have missed! A little air would also have resulted from the curb, though - adding to a thrilling ride. So, perhaps you could look at acquiring another ST?

Happy to hear that Teela and the kids were OK. It reminds me of a time when I started dating my future wife at the tender age of about 22. I had bought a 1981 falcon station wagon with brand new Kelly Sprinfield tyres. We had also gone through a long spell of no rain. On a particular morning that had been drizzling, she borrows the car to go to Uni and as she crested a small bridge with a subsequent steep slope with a left bend, she applied the breaks and the car did a total 180 turn. She was lucky that there was no oncoming traffic as she ended up on the other side of the road facing the way she had just come from. Learned a lesson about freshly wet roads and got rid of the tyres.

Ok update on car and accident.

Everyone is 100% ok, apart from some bruised pride.

Insurance:

We were insured with Suncorp with the package deal of contents/home/car/bike, they were very professional, i rang them an hour after the accident, sort claim numbers, car was assessed and written off within 72 hours, we came to an agreement of a $9000 payment less any outstanding insurance for the year, which meant we got just on $8,500. they didn't miss us on the excess which was a $1000 as Teela is on her red P plates and has been driving less than 2 years, we actually had to pay it up front rather than take it out of payment which was new to me.

Only negative was they rang late in the afternoon to organised payment, i was at work and missed the call, rang back next morning, they had already posted the check rather than waiting an extra few hours for me to give bank details.

Replacement Car:

We have just picked up our replacement car yesterday, we bought a 2002 Ford Falcon Forte series 3, with 124,000km on it, with tow bar and mags was from a retired fellow who was giving up driving and wanted cash, so he started at $7,000, I started at $4,000, we reached agreement on $5,000 cash with 6 months rego, car is spotless inside with everything in fantastic order. Car has very little wear and tear on the outside either.

It is booked into our mechanic for a full Service on Wednesday, Thursday is a Rotate/Balance/Alignment on, then on Friday it is off to get a full Detail inside and out ( do all this so the car is 100% good to go.

We are also putting new seat covers/dash mats in it and we are good to go.

So basically we have a very good car, and we were able to come out $2,500 ahead once everything is done, photo is below
